Pt 2 of Kerry's review... "To start, let me first and foremost state that in no way was Karen’s rental “below Airbnb standards” as the last reviewer had stated. This unit is charming, simplistic, romantic, and has that “Caribbean feel”. Quite simply the best “bang for your buck” that my wife and I have had the experience to stay in over a vacation. There were no “ripped screens” and a tiny amount of rust can be seen on the security bars over the windows. If you live by the ocean, you will get rust, nothing at all what the previous renter had stated. And by “security bars” I mean your standard bars that cover many windows on many ground/first floor units in any city in America. Honestly to complain about that is simply ridiculous!!! The place was clean, and there were no “kitchen in disarray” issues for us. Karen had let us know plenty ahead of time that her top cabinets were being delayed by a contractor schedule problem. No biggie at all – if you tell me you’ve never had a contractor delay a project and not finish on time, then I will say you are lying! We had more than enough room to store what we needed, and then some! There were no bugs, repeat no bugs. My wife and I are mosquito magnets and we weren’t bitten once AND we never even used the mosquito net over the bed, not one time! We did see a few Geckos, on the patio at times, but who doesn’t like geckos? They’re the coolest, you expect this when visiting the Caribbean and we loved it! The ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room, and how Karen has the place “shaded” perfectly were more than adequate in cooling the place off, even in the middle of the hot day! In fact, we laughed because we were actually chilly a few night and had to turn the ceiling fan off. The breeze flowing through this part of the island is perfect and Karen’s unit captures all of it! From the double French doors at the entry, that we swung open each and every morning to take in that amazing ocean view. Once again to retort the previous review … yes -make no mistake, you can see the ocean from your front porch, and if you are standing in the kitchen or living room, you can certainly see it as well. The water itself is a merely a 50 yard (or under) walk straight from your front patio. My wife and I would carry the lounge chairs (which Karen has provided) from the bedroom patio and walk down to the water’s edge at night, with a bottle of wine and imply listen to the ocean and look at the starts shining brightly above. You are literally 50 steps from Surfers Bay Bar, an amazing almost “tree house”esque spot right on the water with hammocks, lunge chairs, music, great drinks and fabulous food and even better people (locals and tourist alike). The best were the sunsets there, incredible way to end the day, sipping a drink and watching the sun retire for the evening. We will miss Surfers Bay very much, and having a place like that so close is a huge advantage of this rental. You are literally less than a 5 minute walk to rescue beach to the North, less than 10 minutes to Silver Sands beach to the South, and about 1.5 miles from the amazing Enterprise (Miami) beach. Some folks may need a car, we felt it not necessary as we are avid walkers. We used our daily walk to Miami beach, we used as our daily exercise, and the walk down the Sea View Drive to get there was so cool to check out the amazing water front properties! Now abut eh water being rough and the previous renter needing to be rescued by a German tourist who supposedly rescued 5 people that same week …. my wife and I noticed maybe 5 to 10 people tops, swimming at both beaches (Silver Sands & Rescue Beach) the entire length of our stay, so I think that may be a “bit exaggerated” to say the least. The water is fine for a swim, I’ve dealt with stronger currents in Ocean City, Maryland and as well as at the Jersey shore. You are on a tropical island, in the middle of the ocean, if you are not a strong swimmer, than maybe don’t jump in the ocean? The water at Enterprise / Miami Beach is literally like a big, warm salt water bath tub, so once again we are perplexed with the previous renters review. We honestly think that the woman was simply looking for a free handout, there is no other reason to write such a disparaging review of Karen’s unit. If you are looking for a simple, laid back, as busy or secluded as you want to be, romantic “get-away from it all spot”, then this place is for you! This is not a 5 star “all-inclusive” type spot, where folks wait on you hand and foot. If you want that, go somewhere else. I explained to Karen before booking, what we were looking for on vacation, and we are so very glad we took Karen’s advice and booked this unit. We miss it so much already and are planning out dates to return again next year! Please don’t hesitate to book if you are considering, and also feel free to reach out with questions, etc. Oh, and how did I almost forget? Julian (Karen’s property manger) and his brother Dale. Two of the nicest people you will ever meet. The Bajan people are extremely friendly by nature, but these two take the cake! What an asset to have, they did everything to make you feel at home, and would literally help, or drive with you anywhere on the island. We were able to see and feel much more like “locals” versus tourists because of these two great people. I can’t thank them enough and again, what an added advantage of the rental! My wife and I talk to Dale over the “What’s App” video call feature, and he shows us the Barbados sun that we so miss, and I show him my view form my office window of Center City Philadelphia … there is no comparison, we truly miss it!" After reading Nancy's lengthy disparaging review, I can clearly see why another host said she was not worth the trouble. I initially wrote my review before knowing what my property manager had to say about Nancy's stay at our apartment. After reviewing Nancy's ungracious comments and hearing a report this morning from my on island property manager, I would NEVER host Nancy again and want other hosts to be aware of the difficulties from hosting her. I had MANY communications with Nancy... before and during her stay. Yet she stated that I needed to reach out more. We do not make a habit of hovering over guests. Most guests expect privacy. We pay a property manager to interact with the guests. Our property manager said he showed Nancy around the apartment but sensed he was being hurried along as to leave faster. If Nancy needed to ask any questions she could have very easily asked our property manager or emailed me using our internet service. Nancy asked for a discount because our new upper cabinets were not installed in time for her arrival. She received the discount then expected champagne on a beer budget! The warning sign should have been heeded when Nancy told me she was unemployed and didn't want to pay over US$75-100 for a three day car rental. Car rentals in Barbados on average rent for US$80 per day. Nancy made statements in her review about nearly dying while swimming in the rough sea. I SPECIFICALLY told Nancy that during the winter months the beaches in our neighborhood are best suited for surfing, kiteboarding and windsurfing. I named the beaches and locations where it is best for swimming. Our property manager said that after picking Nancy up at the airport he drove and pointed out to her where the beaches were that are best for swimming. He told Nancy about the rough sea in our neighborhood but apparently Nancy did not pay attention nor did she take all the info I sent her with her and instead emailed me to rail about almost dying and no lifeguard on the beach etc. As for complaining about no ocean view while sitting (Website hidden by Airbnb) We are across the street from a grassy field and the ocean. Nancy complained that she couldn't see the ocean because a car was parked blocking her view. All she had to do was walk two steps to see past the car yet she said there wasn't an ocean view?! It sounds like Nancy wanted an ON THE WATER experience and should have booked up on the West Coast but she would not find any discount rates there. The screens are not ALL torn and most mosquito bites happen in the day outside near vegetation. They are called no-see-ums. The overhead fans in our apartment blow any mosquitos away from the bed and seating areas. And there is a perfectly good mosquito net over the bed. We do not get any complaints about mosquitoes being a problem in our apartment. All the apartments are treated quarterly by a professional pest control company. Nancy stated that the apartment was in disarray yet our property manager assured me that the apartment was cleaned and tidy for Nancy's arrival. Our property manager said Nancy changed the bed sheets every day and left the apartment pulled apart in disarray and left one of our dishes outside which she used to feed a stray cat milk. As for the items left in washer/dryer by our maid, it was towels and linens that from the guests that had checked out just hours before Nancy arrived. We clearly state on our Airbnb listing that our washer/dryer and a/c are for use at an EXTRA COST yet Nancy used it without permission or paying the fee and then complained about the dryer not working. We cannot fathom why someone would rent our place for less than a week and need to do laundry and then not pay to do so! We have a perfectly good clothesline and PLENTY of clothes pegs! If Nancy had asked permission and paid to use the washer we could have told her at that time about the dryer not working and where to find the clothes pegs! In response to Nancy's allegation that our apartment is "far below Airbnb standards, which was absurd and downright untrue, we are a HOLIDAY rental not a 5 star hotel. The whole apartment was remodeled in 2011. New tile floors...(never had carpets so I am not sure why she complained about carpets,) new walk in shower, and everything painted. Being so close to the sea, rust occurs in the security bars. We are aware that they need to be repainted and the work of sanding and re-painting will be done after winter bookings are over. As for the trash bin comment, there has never been a key to access the trash barrels that are out by the street. The trash issue could have been answered if Nancy had asked our property manager or listened to him when he pointed out where the trash bins were. The "dog chain" on the front door has nothing to do with our front door lock! The chain is on the door for our use when we are there and wish to have the door ajar for air during the day without having it blowing wide open while we are in the bedroom and preventing anyone from just strolling in unannounced. After reading all Nancy's many complaints after receiving a discount and not one nice thing to say about her stay at our apartment other than the location is fantastic, I believe that she definitely was not worth the effort or small amount of income she provided.

Thank you for your input, Marley. It is unfortunate that our cabinet maker could not install the new termite proof cabinets in time for your arrival. Sorry that the cookware and dinnerware were in disarray and making it more of a challenge to find things. That is being sorted out over the next couple of days when the remaining cabinets are installed. The hot water gets very hot from the solar heater that feeds the kitchen sink unless it has been raining for a couple of days. The shower hot water is a different system and must be operated correctly to have hotter water come through. The apartments are treated 4 times a year for cockroaches and no guests have reported seeing any this winter until now. It is nearly impossible to eradicate all of them in the Caribbean.
