The Meadow cabin offers a unique Alaskan getaway situated 30 miles East of Fairbanks, next door to the Chena Recreational Area and within 30 miles of Chena Hotsprings. Sample a bit of our Sleddog world or enjoy hiking, fishing, or skiing opportunities at your doorstep.

There are no City lights here so the the Aurora shines bright and you can almost hear it wandering above. Sleddog rides are offered exclusively for our guests.

The Meadow Cabin is located on a small meadow amid a spruce forest. Very private. Log construction, we built it to provide private housing for our dog handlers (handlers help us train and care for our Sleddog teams). It has a small but functional kitchen, living room and queen size bed downstairs, a full size bed in the loft. A classic Alaskan outhouse is your "bathroom" nestled among the trees.

The loft bed is accessible only for physically nimble!

From September to April, We have an outside jacuzzi located at the main house which you may use for $20/use. This fee just covers the cost of power - very high in Alaska. It is available until 10pm. It's an awesome experience to soak and view the lights at -10!

Доступно гостям

Guests have full access to the cabin. A shower and bathroom at the main house are dedicated for guest use between 8am and 9 pm.

Общение с гостями

Depending on our work schedule, we are available to answer questions in person and always by text.

Другие важные подробности

The cabin does not have running water; however, we offer access to a shower in the house between 8am and 9pm. Potable water is provided for cooking and cleaning.

Sleddogs are on the property.

There is an 8% room tax.

We highly recommend you shop for food and drink in Fairbanks (Safeway or Fred Meyer) before coming out to the Cabin. There is a General store nearby but it has a limited selection.

It gets cold in Alaska November to end of March - although not as cold as in the past. Be prepared, bring cold weather clothes, wool socks, and boots. We do provide Parkas for your use.

We are 35 minutes from Fairbanks, 45 from the Airport, 40 minutes from Eielson, and 30 minutes from Chena Hotsprings.

A fantastic location between Chena Hot Springs and town. Very quiet wooded area, so peaceful and relaxing. Judy was very accommodating and helpful. The fresh eggs were so yummy! I highly recommend this location and I hope to return again!

My husband and I wanted to travel to Fairbanks for the 4th of July weekend and hike few of the trails in the Chena River State Recreation Area. The Meadow Cabin was a perfect place to stay and hike the Granite Tors and Angel Rocks trails. We arrived a little late (after 10PM), but Jewel was very accommodating. The cabin itself was way beyond what we had expected (there’s even a little outhouse next door!). The refrigerator was stocked with fresh eggs, bagel, butter, cream cheese, and ice cubes! The kitchen had coffee, creamer, sugar, basic spices, cookware, microwave, and a toaster. On our last day Jewel brought us croissants and strawberry jam. Thank you so much for everything and we hope to come back during winter.

We had an amazing stay in this lovely cabin in the woods! We were attending a wedding in Chena Hot Springs and, while the drive was about 45 minutes, we were really happy to be staying in such a beautiful area. The bed was the most comfortable we had stayed in the whole week we were traveling around Alaska. They gave us fresh eggs from their chickens and this was a real treat to have for breakfast each morning. I had forgotten how wonderful fresh eggs taste! Judy and Devan were very hospitable hosts and easy to be around. They took extra time to offer an iron and ask how we were doing. There was a strong varnish smell in the cabin that I imagine will fade over time and was manageable if we left the windows open during the day and while we slept. If you are afraid of dogs, this may not be the place for you. They raise sledding dogs that were securely chained but did bark and howl out greetings whenever we walked by or visited the outhouse. We were not bothered by them and they were fairly quite at night but it is something to be aware of. All in all, I recommend this place!

Alaska and sleddogs have been central to our life since 1988 when my husband, Devan, and I toured Alaska on bicycles for four months. In 1991 we acquired our first sleddog, 1995 moved to Alaska and in 1999 I ran my first of six Iditarods. Devan also three Iditaords. Today we have a smaller group of talented, young Alaskan huskies who allow us to continue our trail adventures on a much less strenuous level.
