The cabinas were in a beautiful location about a 10 minute drive from downtown Puerto Viejo. For the purpose of staying 2 nights, I do wish we would have been closer to town as it was a 4.000 colones trip each way to town - but that was no fault of El Nido - it was me not doing enough research.
I would say these cabinas are best for long-term stays, especially for families. I was traveling with two friends from Costa Rica and it was a bit too quiet for us, but again, not El Nido's fault.
A huge plus is they let us bring a dog so long as we were responsible for their property.
The grounds around the cabinas are well-maintained and beautiful! You hear howler monkeys and birds each morning, which is wonderful.
The room itself was nice, but not spectacular. Basic decorations, sheets, pillows, etc. It was spacious with two beds. No air-co which is common in Costa Rica, but it was a bit hot and sticky at night.
We came during the week (Wed - Fri) so it was really, really quiet. I think they had like 3-4 guests there. I'm not even sure if there were enough people staying there to open the restaurant and we didn't stick around to eat there, but I heard it was good.
Overall, I'd stay there again, but only if it was a longer-term stay and if it was with my husband / kids. Not the best place if you don't have a car and want to be closer to Puerto Viejo.
