Quaint house but found feces in between bed sheets and initially hospitable host became hostile. Excited to experience KY Derby for the first time, my girlfriends and I arrived at the bungalow with no issues. We were pleased with how the house looked initially. Everything appeared to be clean and in order. And the host, Mallory, had even provided a small gift on the table. Unfortunately on the second night of our stay, we discovered dog feces in between the sheets in the master bedroom. We suspect this was not uncovered the first night because it was in the bottom middle of the bed but was discovered on the second night after one of the guests stretched out in the bed. After feeling something wet on her feet, she then lifted the sheets to discover, in horror, feces. Looking more closely we noticed paw prints and claw marks in the feces. All of us were so baffled by the situation that we began examining the bed, under the bed, the laundry room etc, concerned that perhaps a wild animal was loose in the house (we had heard stories of raccoons being an issue in the south). After pulling up the sheet to see the mattress protector it was clear that (1) the owners of the house had a dog (confirmed with pictures in the house), (2) the dog spent a lot of time on the bed based on the copious amounts of hair matted into the mattress protector, and (3) the mattress protector had not been cleaned in quite some time. The host was responsive when we called despite it being the middle of the night. Her response was essentially that it was too late to do anything about it at that time. Our party was forced to take three beds down to two, one of which was a small pull out couch. Needless to say, not much sleep was gotten on the second night. The next morning, I reached out to the host, Mallory, to ask what they would do to remedy the situation. My attempt to be reasonable (and even complimentary where appropriate) was met with volatility. The host yelled at me, exclaiming that she was "deeply offended" and literally hung up on me in the middle of her angry fit. Before you decide to use Airbnb, please read the refund policy carefully, which is focused first and foremost on helping the host, not the customer, and taking the least amount of responsibility as possible. Anything that happens after the first 24 hours of the beginning of the reservation, IS NOT COVERED, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that many things can go wrong or be discovered 24 hours after arrival. Both the host and Airbnb have suggested that because we didn't see the feces on the first night that we must be responsible for it. But to suggest that we obtained a small animal, made it defecate on the bed, smeared it's paws in...

I believe this "incident" was a scam to attempt to obtain their money back. There were no animals on the property, I have witnesses of my whereabouts the entire weekend, and my dog was not on the property when the bed was initially made prior to their arrival. The only reasonable and logical explanation is that they either had an accident in the bed or dragged feces in from an alternate location. I have never had a complaint as a Host in the past, and would never wish some of the members of this group or this occurrence on anyone else.... I was called at midnight on the second night of their stay with a complaint of a foreign substance in a bed. After talking with the Derby goers they stated that the substance was feces. They specified that it was not there the first night as they slept in that bed (which is why they did not contact me) and that they were unsure how it got there. I was just as perplexed how this could occur since they have the only extra key and no one re-entered the property except them and any guests they invited in. I told them that there were clean sheets available for them to use that night and apologized for the inconvenience. Amanda called me the next morning demanding their money be returned, I replied that any refund would have to be made through Airbnb. After that phone call I have received several unfriendly, unwarranted, and threatening messages from another member of their group also demanding their money be returned. Airbnb reviewed the case and stood with their 24 hour complaint policy. IF this incident was due to my negligence as a Host, the group would have noticed the substance the first night, Friday night, when both girls slept in the bed and then filed a complaint. Once I turn over the keys to the property I have no hand in what occurs on or in that bed. There is no possible way that the stain was there when I made the bed in the morning before they checked in as the stain is fragrant and located in the middle of the bed. Without being redundant, I need to reiterate the fact that they SLEPT in that bed the first night with no complaint and stated it was not there Friday night when they called to complain Saturday night. As far as there not being enough beds they claimed there were to be 5 people total in their group I can sleep up to 10 in the house, why they decided to sleep 3 to a pull out bed is beyond my comprehension.

We stayed at Mallory's house with 4 kids. They especially liked the upstairs loft area and the playstations. We appreciated the snacks and k-cups provided.

Mallory was absolutely lovely. Even in the midst of honeymoon planning, she quickly replied with helpful answers to questions. The place was just as described and the perfect spot for a family thanksgiving away from home.
