The Gables, is nestled in a valley at the heart of Norton village. It was originally built and adapted as the lower house to Norton Manor and is set in an acre of garden and 7 acres of pasture land.
We currently have two rooms: one double room and one twin room, both with adjacent private bathrooms. We offer a private room to sit in. This has an open log fire which we are happy to light up when chilly. There is also central heating so the bedrooms are very cosy plus WiFi throughout the house.
The Gables has large spacious rooms with high ceilings and some original features, typical for its day. There is a log burner in the dining room and the front room has an open log fire.It was built in 1876 as the lower house to Norton Manor which is just beyond the hill at the back of the house. The garden surrounds the house and there are adjacent fields for livestock. There is a lock up coach house for bikes and plenty of parking space adjacent to the house.
The Gables is our home and we welcome guests. There are two double rooms currently available to book: one double and one twin. Any guest will have access to their room, the dining room and library as a private sitting room. They would also be welcome to walk the gardens and grounds or sit outside on the patio in good weather.

The Gables is situated in the quiet village of Norton in an area known for its beauty. It is popular with tourists, walkers and cyclists and is accessible to The Offa's Dyke National Trail which lies 1 km west of The Gables. We are strong supporters of local food production including our own or local produce where possible. We are near many open forests, footpaths, National Trust sites and a good riding school. Ludlow, a medieval town, is 30 minutes drive away. The Gables is in an area known for its clear night skies and is very near the Spaceguard Centre situated high up on Stonewall Hill which can be visited by appointment. Other nearby beautiful areas include The Shropshire Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, The Elan Valley, Hay and the Brecon Beacons.
There is to be no smoking inside the house or near outbuildings as hay is often stored there. We would ask our guests to remain in the sections of the house shown to them. A rough idea of our guests movements in the day and evening would be helpful to know so we can leave drinks out if we happen to be out on their return.

Mike and I love hosting friends and family in our Victorian Country home. We love good coffee and good food. We love to dance, travel and explore as well as walking. We grow many fruit and vegetables, bake bread, make jams and chutneys and eating eggs from our hens. We support local food production.
We enjoy choral music and jazz. We lived and worked in Shanghai for a while. When we travel we like to explore the history of an area and get to know local people.
We both work (apart from the house and grounds!), Mike in business and I do supply teaching in local primary schools.
