Getaway? family break? Fully renovated miners' cottage situated just above Burry Port. Pembrey Park is 10 mins drive. The Gower is 45 mins (fabulous beaches), & Brecon Beacons & Pembrokeshire (renowned scenery, towns & coastal walks) 1 hour away. A recent guest summed the place up:
"Beautiful little retreat from the World with stunning views"
A Welsh welcome awaits you.
Dan y Graig was built in 1800- to house people who worked the mines and quarries in the area. Originally a four-roomed cottage, now she has 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms. The conservatory and viewing deck were added to catch the sunshine and enjoy views of the Gower Peninsular- when the weather permits :) She sits under a beautiful rockery of overhanging greenery, moss and ferns. Add an excellent fully-equipped kitchen, a new oven and a day bed in the sunny conservatory to lounge on and you have a wonderful place to getaway, relax and recharge. As Nicki (March 1st 2017) said
"You can still walk to the shops and the pub if needs be. The house was really spotlessly clean and we loved the fact there was no TV so it was like a proper break from reality. Thank you Sarah and Kenrick :)"
The whole cottage is accessible, including a parking space alongside the cottage. Extra parking is available 50m further up the hill or 100m down. The viewing deck with small table & two chairs is accessed from the garden.

Y Graig ( 'the rock' in Welsh) is an unspoilt, little-known hamlet- a 20 min walk up the from the coastal town of Bury Port which has excellent amenities. The neighbours are friendly. Leafy bridle and footpaths criss-cross the area, leading up the Pembrey mountain and beyond- great to explore. Perfect place to recuperate from the stresses of city life.
We ask you to respect our cottage. It was a precious gift to us, the legacy of our Grandmother. We run a 'shoes off' policy - and have provided a range of slippers to wear, to protect carpets and help keep Dan y Graig clean. Dan y Graig is a non-smoking area. Our on-the-ground host will advise you on the rules on household waste disposal. Carmarthenshire has a well-established recycling policy, and we are happy to comply. No pets allowed in Dan y Graig.
I love adventure and travel, yet dislike being a 'tourist'. There's nothing like feeling at 'home' in new places whilst travelling, hence the excitement I had to share our Welsh cottage with travellers, families with young children & friends. As a family we've lived and worked overseas - mainly Asia- for the past 29 years - so have learnt to really appreciate the homes and friends who have hosted us during our global wanderings. I am excited to be able to return some of that hospitality through our cottage 'up the Graig' (as its known locally) via Airbnb.
