This is a renovated apartment on the first floor (there is a staircase from the entrance and up to the living area). Very quiet and friendly village in the Mastica area. Street is narrow and don't allow motorised traffic. Large windows, full of light, high ceilings, practical kitchen with cook stove (electric) and microwave. New, big ceiling fans installed 2016. Balcony nice in the morning and in the late afternoon (in daytime very sunny). Two fireplaces, Wi-fi. Caretaker lives next door.
This apartment is in the village of Kalamoti. This is a small medieval village located in the southern part of Chios, an island east of Athens. The island is not a touristic island (like a lot of the other more well-known places in Greece) and therefore is mostly traditional and unspoiled. The village has all you need, including fresh bread every morning! It is close (4 km) to a fantastic beach and easy to reach from Athens, Thessaloniki, other Greek islands and Cesme in Turkey.
Because Kalamoti is a medieval village, the streets inside are narrow and only one street leads through the village. This is therefore a very quiet place with no traffic. Five hundred people live in and around the village and you will probably be one of the few visitors. You will have problems buying postcards, at least a recent one! If you have kids you can just let them out to play - they will not get lost!
The entrance is on the ground floor, and a stone staircase leads up to the first floor with is full of light due to the big windows and high ceilings. The living kitchen has a fireplace. The big bedroom has a dobble bed, is spacious and can, if necessary, take another bed. The smaler bedroom has a fireplace. There are ceiling fans in all rooms. The bathroom is of a reasonable size. The balcony faces south with a view over to the main church, the old ruins and a lemon tree. There is also a mezzanie (sleeping loft which can be used as an additional bed).
WHERE TO SHOP
There is a Mini Market just 200 metres up from the houses. The owner speaks English. He has most of the things you need. There is also a small Mini Market at the Inner Square and at the Outer square.
At the Outer Square you will also find the bus stop, the post office and a cash machine.
DESPINA'S TAVERNA There is only one taverna in Kalamoti – owned by Despina who speaks English and has very nice and affordable food – ask for today's dishes. She has only four tables inside and five outside, so it's intimate and nice.
There is also a grill in the Outer Square, which serves steaks, gyro (pita with filling), souvlaki etc. This is owned by Elefteria.
Both the Inner and the Outer Square have cafes.
The closest beach is Komi. Long, clean and sandy. Here you will find three tavernas (open from April to October) which serve breakfast, lunch and dinner (the Greeks eat late). There is also a handful cafes and bars.
Komi is nice all day, but it is especially nice to go down there around 6pm – have a swim and afterwards have a drink or something to eat. At that time it's usually quiet, and you can watch the sunset. There is a bus leaving Kalamoti for Komi beach at noon with return 4pm during summer (ends September 15).
MELTEMAKI TAVERNA in Kataraktis (20 Km from Kalamoti on the east side of the island) is owned by Anna. There you can sit and listen to the waves and watch the lights in Turkey.
Of course there are many cafes and tavernas in the local villages and we can recommend a visit to Armolia, Vessa, Pirgi, Olympi and Mesta.
THINGS TO SEE
Chios has a long but also tragic history. Here we will mention places like Pyrgi, Mesta, Emporios, Nea Moni and Anavatos. Chios is also a good place if you want to take long walks in the lowlands as well as in the mountains. In the nearest village, Armolia, you find potteries known all over Greece. You can even ask them to make something unique for you. There is also a medieval castle on the hill above Armolia, which is a comfortable walk. The new Chios Mastica Museum in close (Pyrgi) and an absolute MUST to visit!
More detailed information will be forwarded if you wish to book, and there is also an information folder in the house. You will be met by the caretaker who can give more information if needed.
If the house is unavailable on certain dates we may have the possibility to book you in to our second and bigger house across the street. Just send a request.
The guests will have access to the whole apartment. The washing machine is in the next house and is operated by the caretaker. Just tell her when you need to use it. We charge 8 EURO extra for an 8 kilo load.
If needed, she will also supply wood for a minor fee (in winter 10Euro per day).
The apartment has wi-fi. Due to the thick stone walls the is mobile reception only on the balcony. However, there is good reception in the village and also wi-fi on the outer square.

Другие важные подробности
The water in Kalamoti is drinkable, but sometimes it has a salty taste. You can of course buy water, but there are taps around the village with has water from a well!, and it's for free.
Please notice that the village has it's quiet hours between 2pm-5pm. The shops and most of the cafes are closed, and loud music is not appreciated during these hours.
If you brake any items please tell the caretaker. We allow pets, but suggest that cats are kept inside and dogs on a leash so they don't get into fights with the other cats and dogs in the village.
We do not have any strikt rules against smoking. However, please limit smoking inside (in the warmer parts of the year you will be comfortable on the balcony). And please do not smoke in the bedrooms.
