Sipario is a wonderful period holiday home in the historical centre of Modica with amazing views of the city. The original structure dates back to the 18th century and it has recently been restored to its 1930s look and feel.
It offers all modern comforts with an elegant living space, spacious and fully equipped kitchen and 3 double en-suite and airconditioned rooms. A large terrace has spectacular views of Modica's baroque S. George Cathedral. There is also a laundry room and all necessities from utensils to bedsheets are there for you.
Within the city, the house is strategically placed behind the Garibaldi Theatre and some 80 steps up from Modica's main high street, where there are shops, restaurants and bars.
The name Sipario, which means Theatre Curtains, was inspired by the nearby theatre and refers to the theatrical effect of going through the doors of the terrazzo to be overwelmed by a breathtaking view of the city.
Modica is a great place to base yourself to explore South-East Sicily - you will be in a vibrant, active city with lots of choices for restaurants and bars for night life - several beach destinations are only a short 15 minute drive from town while you can get to towns like Ragusa, Siracusa, Noto, Scicli, Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina with short drives (all under 1 hour).
We always rent out the entire house but can do special prices for groups smaller than 6 so just ask. We can also organize cookery lessons, trips to wineries, olive groves, nearby towns - just let us know.

People that have difficulty walking up stairs should get in touch as there are steps leading up to house.
We will send the official legalize following a booking but the main rules are simple - be respectful of the place and the neighbors. We ask for a small security deposit on arrival and the chance to check the house with you before you leave.
I now live and work in Sicily - my birthplace. A return after many years living abroad and working in academia. Nowadays I edit an online magazine dedicated to Italy, run Sicilian cookery courses and take care of my beautiful holiday home in Modica and the many wonderful guests that drop by.
