A beautifully appointed classic Adobe home that can accommodate up to 5 guests nestled in the hills of Abiquiu, which is considered uniquely beautiful and a quiet and serene escape from the every day to recharge and rejuvenate.
We have a wonderful local caretaker that has been praised by many of our guests as being able to help with just about anything from cleaning, suggestions of things to do, childcare, shopping, and has even helped one guest find emergency dental care.
My family home for the last 40 years, nestled in Abiquiu, in the beautiful Chama valley, in Northern New Mexico. Abiquiu is a quaint and eclectic gathering of both native New Mexicans and those in the know.
The house was completely remodeling in 2005 from the roof to the floors. All new kitchen and amazing bathroom await you and you won't find is a hastily appointed 'vacation rental,' this is our home, and it's been beautifully appointed with an eclectic combination of modern pieces and beautiful antiques.
Far from stuffy and boring, this house can be your jumping off point for all sorts of adventures in northern New Mexico, whether you're venturing into Santa Fe to peruse art galleries or headed to Taos to enjoy some fun, this house can be your idyllic escape from the hectic every day of your life.
It's such a beautiful and quiet place to be where the stars at night seem to go on forever.
The experience of being in the village of Abiquiu is such a unique perspective on life. It's not like the polished, touristy side of New Mexico; this house is located in the same place that people settled hundreds of years ago in a government land grant and continued with their lives.
The home is just a short walk to Georgia O'Keeffe's home and a short drive to Ghost Ranch. The area brings many repeat visitors and warrants new explorations with each visit. Take a drive into the Chama River Canyon to hike, visit the Benedictine Monastery, enjoy the hot springs at Ojo Caliente or simply embrace the enchanting nature of Abiquiu - allow yourself to enjoy it all.
Please know that the house is located in the highest part of the village and the road can be slightly intimidated although we've never had any issues with guests accessing the house.
Also, for clarity, the main bedroom is accessed through the second bedroom and the bathroom and kitchen are also off the second bedroom. The house flows from one room to the next as with most traditional adobe homes. We recently had privacy mentioned as a concern but this is the only time this has happened but I try to be very clear with my guests so as not to mislead anyone.
The house resides in a rural community consisting of dirt roads which a few guests have found surprising. They are generally in good condition for most vehicles but we want our guests to be informed of this.
Please be aware that this house sits next to other homes and that there are people around and there can sometimes be noise during the day.
We ask that our guests be flexible, understanding, and practice open communication when it comes to the neighbors and things such as parking and occasional noise. These are good people just living their lives, just know it's not an isolated vacation rental.
If you're looking for a unique experience, this is the house for you!
Please be aware that we charge a one time $25 pet fee for our guests traveling with their animals. Please let us know beforehand if you'll be bringing a pet and I'll send you a customized invoice. If you bring a pet and it is not disclosed during the booking process, we will charge a $75 fee.
There is a key box on the water spigot on the front of the house, to the left of the front door. Keep the keys with you and replace them there upon your departure.

I'm a hands-off owner. We have a wonderful property manager/housekeeper that can be reached anytime to help with whatever our guests may need, but we believe in your privacy and enjoyment while you're with us.
Другие важные подробности
Please park in the parking space to the left past the house or in the open area behind the house and make every effort not to block the road or access to the other homes in the area. We try to be very considerate of the neighbors and their lives, whenever possible. The area in front of the house is an easement to the adjacent property and there will occasionally people coming and going so please be understanding and flexible with our neighbors.
There are baseboard heaters in most of the rooms; you’ll want to turn these on to medium if it’s cold when you arrive to get the house warmed up. Once it’s reasonably warm, please turn them to low or medium, the house will stay warm once it’s heated up a bit.
There are two wood stoves, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. There's wood near the stoves for you to use and firestarter sticks in the pantry, off the kitchen, and matches in the kitchen to light it. PLEASE be careful if you decide to use these, it can be tricky if you’re not comfortable with it. There is more wood on the courtyard, off the bedroom, if you find yourself in need.
Please be considerate of the neighbors around the house as you venture around Abiquiu. Many families have lived there for generations and still have some challenges with outsiders. If you believe it may be private property or belong to someone else, please treat it as such and minimize any potential conflict. Additionally, there has been a tenant move into the house to the left of the front door that has recently asked a guest for money, please do us a favor and do not give him anything as to not perpetuate the situation.
The housekeeper/manager is Brenda Martinez and she will be able to assist you with most anything you may need. Her home number is (and her mobile number will be included when I send these documents separately.
The neighbor across the way is Dexter Trujillo. He’s a nice person and can be helpful if you want to know anything about Abiquiu.
General Things To Know-
The temp control in the shower is plumbed in backwards, when it appears to be getting hotter on the controls, it’s getting colder and, more importantly, vice versa...
The grill on the courtyard should have a propane tank accompanying it. Please feel free to use at your leisure.
The cordless phones can be temperamental and will sometimes shut off when you answer them. If this happens, replace it on the cradle and use the other one, it should work fine.
There is a mini headphone plug to play portable devices through the kitchen stereo, just set the stereo to AUX and you should be good.
You’re welcome to whatever food you find in the house. Frequently, guests will leave things so help yourself to anything you’d like. If something perishable has been left in the fridge, please use your best judgment on what should be done with it.
In addition to the normal kitchen items, we have both a rice cooker and crock pot for your use.
So you know before you arrive, we have a coffee grinder here and a pour-over coffee maker as well as a french press for you to use. We also subscribe to a monthly gourmet coffee service that delivers amazing coffees from different New Mexico roasters every month so you'll always have a quality blend to suit your needs.
There’s also a PUR water filter pitcher at the house and the water here is perfectly good to drink so don’t feel like you need to bring bottled water unless you’d like to do so.
There’s a drying rack in the closet with the water heater if you find yourself needing it.
If you’re curious about what’s happening in Abiquiu while you’re visiting, you can subscribe to the Abiquiu News.
There is a general store here in Abiquiu called Bode’s at the bottom of the hill. They have quite an amazing assortment of gourmet items, including gluten-free offerings, if you find yourself in need of anything. The owner’s name is Dennis, he’s a tall man with very short hair and glasses. Please feel free to introduce yourself and chat with him or ask him any questions you may have.
Please wash the dishes/sheets/towels/etc and place them in the dryer.
The beds do not need to be made.
Turn the baseboard heaters to low or off depending upon the weather
Make sure all windows and doors are securely closed.
Place the keys back in the lockbox.

We charge $25 per dog staying at the house. If you're bringing up a pet, please let me know and I will send you an adjusted quote to include the pet fee.
Please be considerate of the space, it is family home and has been treated and furnished as such.
I love travel and experiencing new places...
That has changed somewhat since becoming a father but I still love the thrill of a new experience and the taste of something unknown.
My favorite memories aren't necessarily a "postcard" moment but more of a sensation that drives me.
