Double room in a private, professionally cleaned apartment, ideal for Southampton's universities, port, Westquay and more. New double bed (October 2017), free parking, complimentary soaps/shampoo, no deposit.
My double guest room is available at times when I am at home (mostly weekdays). I like to think of it as a treehouse.
The apartment has a smart, white backdrop and is decorated with images from places I've lived. Each room has a piece of homely furniture handed down from my parents, grandparents or even great-grandparents.
In your room, it's the magnificent fan-vaulted ceiling of King's College Chapel, Cambridge and my grandad's rolltop bureau that gives the space a warm, established feel.
Settle into your home for the night with a relaxing bath or hot shower in your new bathroom.
Your bed was recently refreshed with a comfy memory foam topper.
There's room to relax in the living room, with WiFi, Netflix, Smart TV and an Amazon TV Fire Stick that will keep you entertained in your downtime.
You'll hear our city's history unfold as you enjoy your morning coffee on the sunny balcony. Whether it's Southampton's famous cruise ships sounding their horns as they depart their home port or the Civic Centre bells chiming their 17th Century melody composed right here in the city - here you're connected to Southampton's beating heart.
There's space to work at the dining table in the living room or, in good weather, the balcony table.
The drive has space for 10+ cars and you're virtually guaranteed a space before 9pm.

I offer a 24-hour remote check-in, which means I often don't get to meet guests in person, but I'll be available, or at least contactable, throughout your stay. Be sure to click the link in your confirmation email to gain all the information you need to get in.
I'm usually studying in the apartment a fair amount.

This is the part where I answer the questions guests have previously asked me:
If you are new to Airbnb, remember this listing is a true Airbnb home rather than a self-catering holiday home. That means I live here but periodically let guests hire the apartment for a short stay. It means I have books on the bookcases and food in the cupboards, fridge and freezer. Professional cleaners come in to help maintain a high standard of cleanliness, but I rely heavily on guests to treat my place with the respect they would treat their own.
Guests tell me they like having the flexibility to plan their own meals, so I don't include breakfast in the cost of the room but check out my Airbnb Guidebook recommendations for cool places to eat nearby. Tea and coffee, however, are available.
I have my own bathroom, so use of the guest bathroom will be primarily yours, but from 2017 I am listing the bathroom as shared because I have a medical need to use the bath regularly. If you have a particular time you would like to have use of the bathroom, please do let me know in advance so that I am not in your way if you are in a rush.
There is space to work at the dining table in the living room or, in good weather, the balcony table (tell me before you book to ensure I can make this work for you).
If you're worried about losing a gym day while you're away, Pure Gym's Southampton Central location offer 1-day and 3-day passes and it's just a 10 minute walk away by the station.
You won't hear a peep (but you may hear a wheek!) out of my guinea pigs, kept in my room, well out of your way.
No naggy "shoes off" rules and such here. All I ask is what you'd ask of me… Leaving spaces clean and tidy; washing up and putting away anything you use, etc.
Before you check in
- Let me know what time you'd like to arrive. There is no standard check-in window here, and therefore check-in is by prior arrangement only.
- No problem if you're late on the day BUT I can't bring check-in forward if you're ahead of time, sorry.
During your stay
- You're welcome to smoke on the balcony (ask me if you need an ashtray).
- No smoking indoors, please.
- This is my home so I would appreciate knowing beforehand if you are considering inviting someone over.
- My friendly cleaner comes in every Monday and Friday at 11am. She has her own set of keys so will let herself in. If you are in the middle of your stay and would prefer she didn't go into your room, just let her know.
Before you check out
- It is absolutely vital that you return your set of keys to the key safe when you check out and scramble the code. Failure to do this essentially locks out the next guests.
- Please put away ALL crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots, pans, etc., including items left to dry on the drainer and/or the dishwasher. It is not the cleaners' job to wash/dry/put away these implements.
I work my flexible hours from my sofa starting any time from 8am-ish across the whole week.
Please note: I sometimes have "Instant Book" turned on to make it more convenient for you. I have also chosen a limit on the number of nights you can book to make it more convenient for me. If you find Instant Book is turned on, please do not abuse it by making multiple bookings to create yourself a longer stay. Airbnb will cancel them. However, I have had longer stays in the past so, if this is what you are looking for, please message me first and we can talk about it.
I grew up in the Southampton area and loved it enough to come back after going away to uni. After 24 years as my base, I reckon I know the place fairly well!
I'm now a full-time student again, working towards a PhD in Education. I also work part-time as a self employed private mathematics tutor.
The best thing about being an Airbnb host is meeting you guys as you come through my door. I really love welcoming people to my home and hearing your stories, what brings you to Southampton, etc. To me, hosting with Airbnb is a privilege. I really love how I can combine it with my other interests. It takes time and commitment, but it's worth it!
