Bonjour, Fredy and wife.
Appreciate you taking the time to write a review; we declined to write one out of a sense of discretion of the unfortunate situation.
But your review fortunately gives us the opportunity to reply and put things in their perspective.
Firstly, would we not have had numerous guests (including older couples) over the past years in the very same apartment you stayed in, who enjoyed their stay, as one can read from their reviews online as well in our guest book, including the charming guests who stayed in the apartment a couple of days before you arrived and also left a review, and would we not have at this very moment, a return guest staying three whole weeks! in the same apartment, appreciative of what it offers in form of comfort, cosiness and convenience, we would probably now be devastated by your voiced opinion.
Most shocking though, are your judgemental rude comments about our lovely daughter; reflecting a lack of respect on your part and an absolute lack of gratitude. Not a single mention of a single thing you found right, not the welcome basket, not her adaptability to your change of plans in your arrival time, not the heater you were brought by after us being contacted by airbnb two days after your arrival (please note: not directly by you!), not the consideration in agreeing to a later departure time, to mention a few extras. Thus, we are all the more thankful for our guests who have voiced their appreciation in their reviews. Yes, we ourselves were travelling while you were at the house, but were impeccably represented by our daughter.
You did get a last-minute special price as well as a part refund based on your phone call directly to airbnb claiming the listing is not accurate as a heater was missing in the apartment; you could have called us and asked for it directly, considering we live practically next door (even if at the time, our daughter, the epitome of friendliness and willingness to help, received you due to our absence), same as you immediately did when you did not find the Wi-Fi password.
And by the way, the guests with their little child in the second apartment staying at the house the same time as you, did not need a heater as it was late March and warm enough, as conveyed by them. Nevertheless, direct communication would have been appreciated, as also have solved your problem and kept you warm, rather than just receiving a further discount based on your call to airbnb, which was then an obligation on their part to confer with.
Talking about the sofa ... placed in the corner of the kitchen has never been an issue as the apartment does not specifically mention an extra living room in our airbnb listing; it is just a space to relax on for those who need it.
If the crockery wasn’t sufficient for your needs, again a simple request would have brought you ample more and could have avoided you going disgruntled to bed and saved you time having to write such a long unhappy review.
The roof terrace … guess the torrents of rain Portugal had been having the previous weeks has taken a toll on the antique benches and other garden furniture and will certainly need to be refurbished as soon as it stays dry.
The café around the corner … Portugal live! Choosing to stay in the middle of town with all its conveniences and wanting at the same time peace and quiet and at that in the morning when Tavira comes to life, is rather contradictory. Going on holiday to a foreign place is experiencing how the locals live.
Well, dear Fredy and wife, we have to thank you once again. Your review will certainly help airnbnb travellers in their decision to book, or not to book, with us. Guests with an open mind are welcome to the Riverside House with its own unique character embedded in the history of lovely Tavira.
Airbnb from our experience is a platform with unparalleled service; yet, communication is key and it is the human factor that counts, tolerance and understanding with appreciation and a zest for living.
The very best to the two of you!
