Grover Cottage is nestled in the small village of Otter Creek which is surrounded by Acadia National Park, just four miles from Bar Harbor. Grover Cottage was built in 1929 but has been completely restored and updated with well-appointed furnishings.
This charming house was featured in the March, 2012 issue of Country Living magazine and will comfortably accommodate up to six people. Grover Cottage is within walking distance to the Otter Creek Market, The Burning Tree Restaurant (one of the best restaurants on Mt. Desert Island), and the village playground and within 5 minutes by car from the villages of Seal Harbor and Bar Harbor and the National Park's most popular destinations including Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Bee Hive and the Park Loop Road. About 1-minute walk from our house, the Park Service has just created a new Acadia National trail head that will lead you into the park. Or about a five-minute walk you can rest on Otter Cove, a small sheltered bay off the ocean. If you prefer to leave your car in our driveway, you can always jump on the free Island Explorer shuttle bus that stops right at our street and take it to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and other Mt. Desert destinations!
On the first floor, guests enter through a sunny, enclosed front porch with a full-size day bed and then move into a lovely Living Room with decorative fireplace. I have a local caretaker to address any issues or problems that may arise.
1.Trash and Recycling:
Trash: Please deposit all trash in plastic bags and then into the plastic garbage just outside the kitchen porch door (be sure to clamp down the lid). Please put out the garbage can on Wednesday mornings at the end of the driveway before 8am (on Wednesdays and Saturdays). Please do not put out garbage bags as this will attract animals.
Recycling: Please rinse, if applicable, all recyclables, separate them and place them in the marked containers on the kitchen porch.
Because our house relies on a well for its water supply, please be mindful about water consumption, especially by moderating the length of your showers!
3.Washer and Dryer:
The washer and dryer are located in the basement. The basement door is located in the kitchen to the right of the refrigerator. Just take a U-turn to the left at the bottom of the basement stairs. Again, please be mindful about water usage.
Please clean out the lint trap each time you use the dryer.
4.Beach Towels or Towels for outside use:
Beach towels or outside-use towels are located on the mud porch, just off the kitchen. Please do not use bath towels for other purposes.
The grill and barbecue implements are located at the back of the house near the basement door. Please only use the grill outdoors and please use the grill cover when the grill is not in use (and when it has cooled!). Please cover the grill before you depart and return it to the same place where you found it. Any other use instruction will be found in the user guide in the grill tray.
6. It is our goal to make every guest comfortable, and the Grover Cottage is a great place to return to after a fun day on Mt. Dessert Island. Please adhere to the following rules/instructions:
•Fireplace: Please do not use the fireplace as the chimney has been capped and the fireplace is for decorative purposes only.
•In the basement, please do not enter areas marked “Private.”
•NO SMOKING in the house whatsoever. Feel free to do so outdoors (but please properly dispose of ‘butts’).
•NO PETS ARE ALLOWED IN THIS RENTAL PROPERTY.
•ONLY USE THE FIREPIT LOCATED IN THE BACKYARD PATIO FOR OUTDOOR FIRES.
•Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am
•Be careful not to track dirt in from outside—please use the door mats.
•Please keep furnishings free from stains and other damage and please DO NOT RE-ARRANGE THEM.
•Do not leave water running in faucets or outside hose (Maine has been experiencing a drought, and wells can run dry!)
•Do not flush any non-paper products down toilets.
