10% Tax added to nightly rate. When I first saw this house, I was hooked. It so reminded me of the house my parents bought in the 50's. Flat roofed with a slab foundation. The kitchen is the central area of the one bedroom with a counter looking into the living room. Great for entertaining. With two skylights, natural light floods the house all day. Wherever possible, I have tried to make it sustainable. We removed all the old carpet, laminate flooring and linoleum (from the 50's) tile. The use of low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints was very important to me, as I did not want there to be any out-gassing. The exterior was light blue with turquoise trim. We repainted it a light gray and turquoise, and added a touch of Coral around the windows. The original concrete floors have been shined. I had the kitchen cabinets refaced instead of replacing them. We also reconditioned the original wood windows. Wherever possible, I have used cotton and natural fibers. The lawn was removed with the "sheet mulching" process, and replaced with mushroom compost. It takes longer to remove it, but there were no chemicals used. Sometimes I use vinegar on pesky weeds. Currently, the garden is a work in process, and soon it will flourish as the mushroom compost is super enriched. There are California natives, succulents (from my BFF's daughter's wedding), and other drought tolerant plants. There is an herb garden right outside the front door. Soon, a local farmer will supply me with organic tomato plants. The toilets and shower heads are low-flow. My cleaning service is allergic to chlorine, so I am thrilled to say that she is familiar with the cleaning and sterilizing qualities of vinegar and baking soda. We also use Mrs. Myers products. My lovely friend Pam contributed eco friendly products from Boulder, CO. The brand is Boulder. The bedroom features a comfy queen bed with all the pillows and blankets you will need. The coffee table is full of local brochures on what to do in Ventura and surrounding areas. There are a lot of amazing surf spots near by including Ventura Point, Pitas Point and Rincon. Coral 1 has a gas grill, a big screen SmartTV, blow dryer, portable air conditioner and lovely patio table and chairs in the backyard. There is also an queen Airbed for extra people. The kitchen has a full size gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker (you might find some coffee in the freezer), panini maker, and plenty of cooking supplies. There is a full length mirror behind the bedroom door. Lastly, please enjoy your stay. The Pier is about 1.5 miles Ventura is a not only a city, but a county with numerous cities and communities with their own personalities. Coral Cottage is close to Ventura Beach, Ventura County Fairgrounds, downtown with lots of restaurants and shopping. Thank you for choosing Coral Cottage.

I love California, I love Ventura, California has been my home for over 34 years. Originally, I am from Virginia, but I lived in a number of spots on the East Coast: Atlantic City -the first summer they opened a casino, Alexandria, VA, then Westchester, NY. I love to travel, meet new people and explore their cultures. As a child my family always took local vacations, but as an adult I took my first international trip to Montreal for the Olympics with my brother and his college roommate. I wish we had Airbnb then. Luck favored us when we found a local family that rented us their bedroom. They spoke French, and did not know much English. I spoke very little French, so we sat down with an English/French dictionary and talked most of the night. A few years later, I was working with a fellow that asked me to take something to his family in Peru while I was on vacation. Little did I know that it was a TV screen, and not a small one. I flew it to Columbia and Rio, before we ended up in Peru. His family was so gracious, they invited us to lunch one day. I loved getting away from the hotel and exploring the non tourist sights. I took two years of Spanish and was able to communicate with them with the help of a dictionary. All great fun. They served us ceviche with sweet potatoes. Yummy. I hope to get to know you and your culture when you come to California. Welcome.
