Weekly rentals, from Saturday to Saturday. Half of a duplex house, separate entrance, two bedrooms, full bath and small, well-furnished kitchen. Twelve minutes walk from the ferry within easy walk to beach. Bright, clean, well cared for.
This beautiful offering is one-half of an owner-occupied duplex, built like a separate house, completely private, with a separate entrance. On the first floor is a living and dining area (with wood stove for chilly nights), and a kitchenette on one end. A large sliding glass door at one end looks into a Japanese garden. The kitchenette is small but well-furnished (no microwave) and has everything one needs to cook summer meals.
A bright, open stairway to the second floor offers views through a skylight of the water during the day and stars at night. On clear days, Mount Washington can be seen on the horizon. From the skylight and a small balcony off one of the two bedrooms are stunning sunset views of Portland, Little Diamond and Mackworth islands and Diamond Passage. Many boats, ferries, fishing, and pleasure boats travel between Portland and the islands. There is always something interesting to see.
On the second floor are two bedrooms and a full bath. The bathroom has a tub and excellent shower, with tiled floor. One bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the other a full-size, both with comfortable mattresses (bedding provided), and quilts for cool nights. The bedrooms also both have closets.
The house is clean and well cared for with light, polished wood floors throughout. Outdoors is an attractive garden with chairs for enjoying coffee, drinks or meals and taking in the view. The space is perfect for a couple, two couples, a parent (s) with children, or for a solo person wanting a happy, quiet, summer retreat for writing or painting.
The owner in the separate adjoining house is a fiction writer who teaches graduate writing students. In summer, the vegetable garden may have extras to share.
Property is an easy 10-minute walk from the ferry, less than a 10-minute walk to Centennial Beach (a long, lovely beach with sunset views). There is easy access to hiking trails through the woods and to the Atlantic side of the island (a 20-minute walk).
I rent from Saturday (check-in time 3 p.m.) to Saturday (check-out time 11 a.m.). No partial weeks. $1000/week. Cost of rental is lower the longer you stay.
Guests have full run of one side of the duplex and access to the garden and to a friendly cat named Archie.

For the most part, I'll be on the island during the summer months. I like to be available when I'm needed, but I don't hover over guests.
Другие важные подробности
Wireless internet is available.
I'm a writer and so prefer guests who respect and love quiet themselves. No smoking, no barking dogs, but I accept well-behaved pets (with an extra $50 cleaning fee).
I'm a fiction writer with three books out in the world. I teach in a graduate writing program and have lived on Peaks for nine years. I love this community and the ever-changing beauty of the island. I helped raise my two children grew up just across the water, in Portland--also a great community.
As a host, I'm available and also respect your privacy. If there's anything you need while you're here, I'll do my very best to find it for you.
