Hi Tomica. Thank you for your review. I’m glad you had a great time on the island of Oahu in Hawaii! It is such a wonderful place. Airbnb is such a wonderful option for guests because it allows guests like you to stay in a large sized apartment at a fraction of the price of those high priced hotels in Waikiki which do have central A/C. I see this was your first time staying in an Airbnb. There are some differences (mostly positive) between renting someone’s condo and staying in a hotel. Let me start by addressing and explaining your A/C concerns. I believe there was some confusion and misstatements in your review which might mislead our future guests. Reviews are designed to help hosts be better hosts. But they must be honest and based on facts in order to be relevant. On the Island of Oahu we have some magnificent breezes. These are known as the Tradewinds and move from the North of the Island over the mountains to the sea. Most condos in Oahu are oriented from North and South to take advantage of this constant stream of wonderful fresh air. Most Condo’s on Airbnb in Waikiki also do not have Central A/C. This can only be found at major hotels, so it is highly unlikely anywhere else you may have stayed on Airbnb could have offered this option to you. Central A/C may be common for folks from the mainland who live in states with sweltering heat, but the temperature in Hawaii is so tepid and consistent we really wouldn’t use it. I did let you know about this fact only so that you may also take advantage of the beautiful weather. It is true that one of the two window mounted units is not working. However, you did not mention that we have actually replaced it with another A/C unit in its place and actually right in front of it. We decided to not remove the one that does not work, because that would leave an empty space. I don’t believe you could have missed this fact. We did put a sign on the old unit stating it was not working so that there was no confusion and guests didn’t try to turn on a non-operable unit. We thought this was common sense, but maybe we should have explained this fact better. I’m truly sorry if this confused you. This is my personal property and I have offered it to guests on Airbnb for a few years now. In this time, I have had many guests who complimented the apartment, and it makes me happy to offer an alternative to an overpriced hotel. I know that you had requested a refund after your arrival. In my years of renting properties, I have learned when someone is trying to take advantage of a situation, and hold me hostage by threatening a poor review. I have offered refunds when they were warranted, but I have also learned not to cave when being taken advantage of. I did offer a refund to you provided we could get the unit re-rented for the remainder of the nights you had booked, because nothing was wrong with the condo. You chose to not take us up on our offer, probably after looking around and realizing you would not be able to find a place with Central A/C, our location, and large size anywhere close to our price point. The rest of the comments are totally inaccurate. You did not mention them at all during your stay. Had you done so we would have sent the cleaners over to check and fix any discrepancies right away, but we cannot read minds and thus cannot fix what we don’t know is a potential problem. Instead you said “Do Not Contact me unless you are going to give me a refund”. This is why we didn’t send anyone over to replace the A/C unit because we knew there was already a Brand New one in its place which was operating well, and we didn’t want to bring more drama to a drama less situation.
