Our farmhouse was built in 1793 and renovated early in the 21st century. The house features 5 bedrooms including a master suite w. jacuzzi, ample common spaces, huge kitchen, enclosed porch, a luxurious pool, pond, and 16 acres of well-maintained park.

The house is filled with lovely 18th century details – wide-timbered wood floors, original fireplaces, exposed beams, and tiny nooks – but it's also roomy and comfortable. There are five bedrooms (one in the attic) and ample common space – a living room, sitting room, open kitchen/dining area, enclosed porch, home studio, and large patio. The house is surrounded by sixteen acres of gorgeously designed park, filled with flowers and trees, and ready for exploration. There's a pool next to our historic barn. The house sleeps ten. We recently installed solar panels on the barn, because we're committed to making Sweetbrier more sustainable. Please follow us on Instagram at sweetbrierfarm for more pictures and inspiration.

We spent a week at Sweetbrier Farm for a wedding nearby in Litchfield. We all had a great time, the house is beautiful and functional. Laura, the property manager was helpful and did a great job answering any questions we had. Hopefully I will stay here again one day. It is a no-brainer to book this place.

The house is lovely, spacious, cozy, and unpretentious. Laura was so helpful and sweet and even picked cucumbers and zucchini from the garden for us. Have already booked another stay.

We had a fantastic time at the farmhouse. The house is well situated on 15 acres on a hillside in the surprisingly beautiful Litchfield Valley (CT, who knew?!?) w sweeping views. The pool and pool area is wonderful as are the rest of the outdoor areas - the porch, screened-in porch, hammock. I spent a few hours everyday doing work outside in those spots (there's great wifi!) The house itself is lovely. It's clear that a lot of thought and effort went into the design and decoration of the space. There were two things that really surprised me about the house. One is, unlike many other houses in that region from the 18th century, the rooms are very big. We were only a party of four + a toddler and a dog, but it seemed like 10 people would have been able to hang out comfortably together in any of the communal spaces. The other was how well-equipped the house was. I've stayed at many Airbnbs and the majority of them cut costs or limit access to features of the house in some capacity - they don't have adequate kitchenware or even salt pepper and olive oil, they have cheap appliances, not enough linens, only basic cable, shotty wifi, uncomfortable matressess, etc.. This was very much not the case here. They had everything we could have hoped for - and nice versions of them on top of it. Elizabeth was very helpful via email and Laura was a great property manager - helpful and available without being intrusive. She also has two very sweet dogs! The ONLY thing I would mention (and I believe they do mention it in the description as well) is that the house is relatively close to a somewhat busy road where cars are going pretty fast. I would say that if you have a dog that wanders, make sure to keep them on leash. Other than that, it's hardly noticeable. Also, you should mention if you plan on bringing your dog, and I'd recommend not bringing dogs that aren't well socialized as there are some neighbor dogs (and other animals) around.

Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Litchfield hills while being a close drive to grocery stores, shops and restaurants. We highly recommend the restaurant Arethusa al tavolo and ice cream from their adjacent dairy store. The historic home was spacious but comfortable. We loved that the home was built in 1793, but appreciated that it had every modern convenience. We were a three generation family and there was something for everyone, from historic charm to a huge TV in one of the sitting rooms. We spent most of our time around one of the dining tables- in the dining room with a wood-burning fireplace, on the screened-in porch, on the patio with views of the lawn, forest and hills, or by the pool with views down to the pond. We loved our stay, and would definitely go back!

Elizabeth's home was wonderful and we had such a great weekend getaway with our kids. The home has a lot of history but at the same time modern conveniences to make your stay very comfortable. The pool and grounds were really lovely and the location was very convenient as it's close to a lot of great small towns. I hope we can come back again soon!

Elizabeth's home is incredible! It is a wonderful mix of old charm and modern conveniences (such as wifi and a/c). We spent most of our time by the beautifully landscaped pool. The place is clean and so comfortable. Our 15 month old was in seventh heaven exploring the rooms and eating strawberries from the garden. We made good use of the grill and ate every meal in the screened in sunroom enjoying the view while avoiding mosquitoes. Arethusa's ice cream in town was our nightly decadent treat.

Pros: We had a pleasant stay over the 4th of July weekend. The property is right off the highway, but it's actually quite secluded and quiet. The pool is very charming and big enough for 8+ adults. The house is fully equipped; they had everything you'll possibly need. They even have two Weber grills; 1 charcoal and 1 gas grill. I was pretty ecstatic that they had a KitchenAid stand mixer and other electronics. The towels provided by the owners were very soft and color coded for bath/pool. (Very thoughtful of them.) The house had central air, for the most part, the house was nice and cool. The attic bedroom is a little dusty and humid, so I would not recommend sleeping up there during your summer stay. But there are a lot of bedrooms to choose from anyway. The property is very big and comfortable. It is great rent for small gatherings or a weekend with family and friends. Cons: On the second day of my stay, the manager of the property invasively walked into the house unannounced. I didn't really appreciate her just walking in (with the key I assume because we kept the doors locked). It alerted my dog and had him barking nonstop. I'm sure she knocked on the door, but we were too far to hear. But she could've messaged or called beforehand to be honest. We also ran out of gas for the grill so we had to go out and buy. (The manager said she got the tank refilled, but it was finish by the second day.) The owners left two empty tanks in the garage, so we took one of them to get it refilled. BEWARE, do not go to the True Value Hardware store. The associates at that store claimed the tank was expired, thus we need to buy a new tank for $30 and get it refilled for another $30. That's absurd! Back at home, we would get our tanks refilled with no trouble. We ended up driving an extra 15-18 minutes to the nearest Home Depot. We got the tank refilled for a lot less and we didn't have to buy a new tank. The cleaning crew could’ve done a better job. At first glance the house is clean, but my brother-in-law found trash behind the couch in the bedroom adjacent to the master suite. I also left my designer sunglasses in the annex bedroom, but the manager could not find it. That’s on me for being such a ditz. But I definitely left it on the bed. Oh wells. Lesson learned. The refrigerator's temperature will increase dramatically if you have a lot of items stored inside or opened a lot. We had a group of 8, so we had quite the amount of food. I recommend not storing too much in the fridge. During the last two days of our stay, we had to move our perishable goods into the freezer cause the refrigerator was at 40-50 degrees...
