Six friends built our own sustainable house on 16 acres of land in the country, 12 miles from Ithaca. We have a small vegetable farm and chickens (and a kitty). Highlights: straw bale cottage, huge windows, lovely garden, solar power, trails - among countless other unique elements!
Because we're trying to live in a sustainable way we ask that guests don't put things with strong chemicals in our drains, such as bleach, paint etc. You can smoke, but not inside the house - lots of outside space though. You can bring your friendly dog, but we now have a kitty so if your pup is cool with that, then great! Children of any ages are welcome.
We are a group of six, trying to live sustainably out here in the country. We came to the area and found land, then we built our own home, learning the various skills as we went along. We are all friends from years ago - Lily and Marina are sisters, Lea and Danila are married with a baby, and Joe, originally from IN met Lily and Marina while they were WWOOFing in Hawaii.
We do all kinds of projects from photography to fermented foods, puppet-making, wood work and experimental car mechanics. Four of us are immigrants from the former Soviet Union (we came over as kids). Some of us are literary, some are artists, some of us listen to doom metal and some of us are gardeners.
We'd all love to meet you and have you as a guest at our Dacha. :)
