L'escala (officially and in Catalan, L'Escala) is a Spanish municipality in the comarca of Alt Empordà in the province of Girona (Catalonia). In this town the ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Ampurias are. Apart from a few remontables evidence to the Neolithic period, the effective population of the area occurred around the ninth century.
