Thank you for giving us the opportunity to host you and for taking the time to submit a review regarding your stay at our Eco Retreat. We would like to briefly respond to a couple of issues you raised.
In response to your caution to “be careful” about the housing tax not collected by AirBnB. The first line of the confirmation cautions guests to“PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND READ ALL information and directions very carefully!…” The first section of the confirmation email covers “CHECK-IN” wherein the HI state tax is disclosed clearly and in detail. We are a legally permitted B&B and therefore pay all taxes and fees associated with running a legal B&B, and we are very clear in our communication regarding this since AirBnB is not set up to collect this tax in their system.
Regarding the shared bathroom, we hosted you in our private cottage the “Mandala Temple.” This cottage does utilize a wonderful outdoor Mandir Temple spa/bath/shower. Most guests of the Mandala Temple truly appreciate this as it allows them to experience more of the true Hawaiian lifestyle. Also as you used the main house kitchen you had an additional indoor bathroom and shower available. There is no lack of bathroom space for our guests and many enjoy the out door and indoor.
With regard to privacy, you mentioned the curtains give 90% coverage which is true. The only window that is exposed is located in a high enough position that it would be nearly impossible for anyone walking about to actually see in so we don’t recall ever having any complaints in that regard.
Regarding the noise from wind, the windows do completely lock and therefore act as a buffer for much of the sounds of nature so we’re a bit puzzled what may have been the issue with that. Living “green” and “off grid” of course entails dealing with Mother Nature in all her glory. We do occasionally have inclement weather including high winds, etc. so when the wind causes a bamboo to break we simply try and utilize it somehow on the land!
We are in a lush tropical environment as indicated on our website by pictures, description and videos. This is specifically why many of our guests come here and we trust that each guest study our website to ensure the booking is a match and the needs of both the hosts and the guests are met. Our remote location is quite a different experience from the dry hot touristy side of the island where many of the large hotels are located. We certainly can't and don't want to compete with a large hotel on the South Shore. We may not be for everybody, but we hope with our website to be open and clear where we are located, what we provide and how our place looks.
With all of that said thank you for giving us the chance to add some clarity to your report. Thank you again for taking the time to post your comments and we hope to welcome you back one day.
