At the end of our first day, our two families renamed Rumat "Chateaux Relax," which perhaps says it all. If you are looking for a private and comfortable place to get away from it all, it's hard to imagine a better place. The outdoor bed, suspended from large shade trees, is large enough for four kids to pretend it's a boat upon which to sail the world in their imagination, or for two adults to read novels with a glass of Guillauc rose in hand. The pool is refreshing; the trail that runs by the property a great escape for a three hour hike through fields and woods to a nearby Puy Celsi; the boulangerie in Salvagnac a requisite daily stop for fresh croissants and baguettes; and the backyard grill the best way to grill entrecôte and duck from a nearby store or the butcher in Guillauc (a short drive). Tempting though it is to hang out every day, there are wonderful day trips to be had to medieval towns (Penne is special), museums like that in Albi (Toulouse-Lautrec) and to the Tarn river for kayaking . More about the (URL HIDDEN) is huge. We were four adults and four kids and never even ventured into the upper living room, two more bedrooms and bath. Twelve could easily be comfortable. Oh, and there is a horse named Luna who loves apples from a tree in the backyard. Pieter, your host, is welcoming and helpful, and we found him charming and feel lucky to have gotten to know him. He, like the place, seems full of that special quality of light that makes this part of France special.
