A unique apartment in the historic pedestrian zone of Chamonix.
In a 300 year-old stone building on the river's edge, we have a lovely view of Mont Blanc from the balcony, and a welcoming fireplace.
Quiet and calm, we are set back from the street along the river's edge - so you won't hear any street noise. Central to hundreds of shops and restaurants and steps to the valley bus and lift systems.
Five minute walk to SNCF train station. 8 minutes walk to inter-regional bus station.
Apartment Kayla is a beautiful 65m2 apartment on the ground floor of a 300 yr old building set along the bank of the Arve river. It has metre-thick natural stone walls and a lovely closed cast iron fireplace.
The fireplace helps heat the apartment in winter. There are additional electric heaters in the bedrooms, bathrooms and living room. Firewood for daily use is provided in winter season.
Our lovely balcony along the river has views of Mont Blanc and the town centre of Chamonix.
The apartment features exposed natural stone walls in the living room and back bathroom, and has Italian tiles throughout. The balcony gets morning sunlight.
Bedrooms: There is 1 double bedroom and 1 family bedroom with 2 bunk beds. Each bedroom has plenty of storage space for luggage and longer stays and are not cramped - you can walk around the beds with ease.
Living area: The sofa in the living room pulls out into a double sofa bed if 2 couples want to share the flat and a door allows the living/dining area to be closed from the rest of the apartment.
Bathrooms: There is a shower room off the hallway across from the double bedroom and a separate WC near the front door.
En suite to the family bedroom is a bath/shower with a second WC separated by a door. The second toilet is new, with the back bathroom having been extended and completely renovated in 2016.
Kitchen: The small galley style kitchen is equipped to serve 6-8 people and features an American style refrigerator. The kitchen does *not* have a dishwasher nor a microwave. (We chose to have more storage space for food and dishware).
We are located on Rue du Dr Paccard - this is the Chamonix high street and is a bustling pedestrian zone full of shops and restaurants. In summer street performers and musicians set up in the many plazas to entertain visitors.
Because the apartment is tucked in back of another building and borders along the river rather than the street, it remains a peaceful oasis in busy town centre. The glacially fed river keeps the apartment cool on the hottest summer days.
This historic town centre is closed to cars except in the early mornings until 10h. Parking is not included with the apartment, but underground parking is available a few minutes away in municipal car parks (Parking St Michel is covered or parking L'Outa is closest). The Chamonix mayor has been reducing free parking over the years to encourage people to use our free public transit. A few free on street spaces exist on the next parallel street (Allée Recteur Payot).
Our pedestrian zone street allows traffic in the early morning for loading your car to depart and closes to traffic at 10h.
You do not need a car when living in town centre of Chamonix so you can park your car and leave it for the week if you like in a lower priced car park such as the Grepon on the edge of town.
There is a free local bus system that serves all the mountain lifts and there are several local SNCF train stops along the valley.
The price includes bed linens and bath and kitchen towels as well as full internet access, DVD-Blue Ray player, French internet TV with several English channels such as BBC Entertainment and news channels. Many channels will show movies in the original language (English, German etc.) by using a menu setting. Also includes all local utilities and the local Taxe de Séjour.
We will give you the Chamonix "Carte d'Hôte" on your arrival. This card is good for free public transit and gives you a discount in some local sites such as the local swimming pool and museums.
Общение с гостями
This is a self catered accommodation and we live nearby, about 10 minutes away. We generally leave you to enjoy your holiday but are readily available if you have any questions.
If we are for any reason not in town during your visit, we will also leave you a local emergency contact number.
Другие важные подробности
Lift status - You may check with the "Mont Blanc Natural Resort" site and the Compagnie du Mont Blanc who manage the Chamonix lift system for all updates on ski conditions and ski pass prices or lift pass prices in summer for the Aiguille du Midi and other attractions.
Note that in the Spring and Autumn, many mountain lifts are closed - be sure to check the lift schedules before booking to avoid disappointment.
Winter openings operate according to snowfall. Typical lift opening for ski season is end December (earlier if good snowfall) and closure is typically the first week of May.
Typical summer opening of all lifts for hiking is mid to late June with closing in mid September. Several lifts re-open at end of October for French school holidays (Toussaint).
We operate with a Strict cancellation policy. Please carry the appropriate travel cancellation insurance in case you need to cancel your booking.
The property including balcony is 100% non-smoking.
Pets are allowed. Note that there is only a balcony and no garden. Trails for walking your pets off-lead are abundant just outside Chamonix town center (5 mins to walk through) and there is a small public garden for quick relief only a few metres away. Please clean up after your pets and use the many public bins to dispose of waste. There are a few parks in Chamonix centre.
We strongly suggest removing your shoes or boots upon entering the flat and storing them on the shelves provided to minimise tracking dirt into the flat.
Our guest towels are for drying off a clean person after a shower or bath.
Please do NOT use guest towels to remove your make-up, mud or mop up spills.
We have had many problems with stained towels, and so sadly have to warn that you will be charged for new towels (€35 per bath towel) if any towels are returned stained and cannot be laundered clean.
There are many cleaning rags, sponges and mops in the storage room for cleaning mud or spills. Use provided cotton balls or tissue paper for make-up removal.
We recycle rubbish in Chamonix and ask that you do the same - we provide 2 bins, one for rubbish and one for recycling. To dispose of recycling (or rubbish), there are containers (called Moloks) very near the flat - a map of these is in the flat.
Rubbish (only) can also be disposed of nightly - the city collects trash bags which are placed from 18.30-19h directly across the door from the flat. Just add yours to the pile for pick up.
The rental fee includes use of bed linens and bath towels as well as kitchen towels and floor rugs. The environment is low allergen with tile floors and cotton or synthetic duvets and pillows (no feathers).
There is wifi internet access and French internet TV with several English channels. There is also a mini stereo that accepts MP3 players for your use.
The kitchen is equipped for serving up to 6-8 people and has a tall style full refrigerator/freezer.
We normally keep a stock of spices, tea and coffee in the flat for your use. If you use the last of any of these, please leave a note on departure so we can replace it, or simply replace it yourself with the same quality. Organic coffee and tea is what we normally provide.
Supervise your children while playing on the balcony and please do not throw anything into the river. The river is very cold (glacially fed) and fast flowing. In summer it is very deep and milky coloured from the granite in the glacier melt, in winter it is quite low and clear.
------------------------ TIDY BEFORE DEPARTURE ------------------------
Before leaving please ensure the flat is tidy. Use the following guide before departure.
The apartment cleaning fee covers the laundry service, cleaning the toilets and showers, cleaning windows and mirrors, waxing wood and mopping the floors.
You must leave the apartment tidy so the cleaners can quickly do their jobs of a thorough sanitisation and cleaning before the next guests arrive.
1. Please remove all your rubbish and recycling -- there are city collection bins in the Parking L'Outa. Reach the L'Outa from the door at the far left side of the Casino grocery store building which is directly across the street from the flat.
A small flight of stairs leads up to the car park, and the bins are visible from the exit of those stairs, on your left.
2. Your dishes should all be clean, dry and put away. Please take care to clean the dishes properly so that other guests may use them - think of how you would like to find the flat upon arrival.
3. Return dish-ware, pots and pans to their original locations neatly and tidily as it was presented upon your arrival. Do not leave a pell mell of pots and pans for the next guest to hunt through.
4. The kitchen counters should be wiped of crumbs with a damp sponge.
5. If you have used the stove top or oven, ensure that they are wiped clean of any of your spills or crumbs and clean them with the provided cleaners. There is a special cleaner provided for the vitro-ceramic stove surface and a spray oven cleaner.
6. The used sheets and duvet covers should be removed and left together in a pile in their corresponding bedroom, along with your used bath towels.
7. The floors should be swept or vacuumed. The vacuum is a bag-free style. Please empty the dust into a bin when finished.
8. The furniture must be returned in its *original location* in the flat.
9. Half-eaten food should be removed from the flat.
Spices, condiments, coffee, tea and bouillon may remain for others to share.
You may leave behind any food or drink that is still sealed or whole and in good condition. Our cleaners will make use of any fresh food that is still in good shape, and sealed packaged goods may be left for the next guest to enjoy as we do not believe in wasting food that is still edible.
We do reserve the right to charge an extra cleaning fee if the apartment is left in a very untidy state upon departure and the above guidelines were ignored.
Our cleaning fee is based upon the turnover time it should take our cleaners to deeper clean and sanitise an already tidy flat and to change all the bed linens, bath linens, kitchen linens, check and refill stocks of items we provide for our guests, check for breakage, mop and put down clean rugs before the next guests arrive. Thank you for your understanding.
