Festina Lente is Latin for 'hasten slowly'. That's what you'll do at this delightful complete home in Onrus: relax. Within walking distance from a surfing/swimming beach. An ideal base in the Overberg from which to explore the local wineries, walk in fynbos or enjoy land-based whale watching or shark cage diving. We look forward to your visit. Kindly note that bed linen and towels are provided on special request only at an additional charge of R60 per bed per night.
Festina Lente Cottage is an open space with two bedrooms downstairs and an open deck with atrium upstairs. It's spacious enough for close friends and family to relax in and has beach cottage finishes i.e. it's a place where people walk around with sandy feet without worrying about the floors too much. Linen is excluded, but can be arranged at an extra fee.
The house is ideal for family/friends who are intimately acquainted. It has creaky wooden floors upstairs (you WILL hear other guests when they walk around at night).
Please note there is an atrium which may mean the place is not suitable for toddlers or young children (although the stairs can be blocked off).
The yard is enclosed and small pets are welcome (at an additional fee) as long as they are house-trained and don't dig up the garden or soil the furniture/carpets. The entrance to the property is in a quiet cul-de-sac, however, the backyard borders a primary road feeding the area.
The whole house, outside yard and entertainment area will be accessible to guests, all except locked cupboards and the shed.

South Africans are easy going, colourful, friendly, complex, kind, cunning, developing and often unsophisticated and down to earth. We are full of smiles, curiosity and eager to engage. However, TIA (or "This is Africa") also applies. Local have grown up surrounded by with beauty and dust. Sometimes there are inconveniences like power cuts. And we are all too familiar with seeing the effects of privilege vs poverty. We tolerate bugs in our living space and we accept that time is measured differently (i.e. sometimes service can be slow or even non-existent). Life in Africa may be different to what first-world travelers are used to, but we enjoy it here and we often have good times. We'd love visitors to get a glimpse of our life as we're sure you'll find is as exotically fascinating and intoxicating as we do. In fact, we KNOW you'll fall in love with the place and its people and you may want to return again and again!
We welcome guests who know how to enjoy themselves, however, our home is not open for rowdy student 'jolls' (i.e. raucous, unrestrained revelry).
Minimum number of days apply during peak season including long weekends and school holidays.
The kitchen is small and set up for light cooking and warming leftovers only (South Africans prefer to braai on holiday anyway). Dishes to be washed and packed away after use.
No smoking inside the home.
If you break something, the cost will be taken off the security deposit.
For liability reasons, guests may not bring any visitors or any others to our home at any time, for any length of time. Only those individuals who are registered guests (adults and children of all ages), whose full names have been provided in advance and who have been paid for in advance, may enter the premises. No other individuals may be on my property unless pre-arranged with me.
The yard is enclosed and small pets are welcome, but a daily fee of R45 per pet will be added.
In the case of significant violation of house rules, the reservation will be immediately terminated and all fees and monies paid will be forfeited.

My husband and I were born and bred in Cape Town and always make sure that we live within sight of Table Mountain, one of the 7 wonders of the modern world.
Because we have no kids, we've had opportunity to do volunteer work from time to time, travel a bit and live a simpler life, filled with people, places and experiences. I work in the book publishing industry and Greg in telecommunications and related systems. Our base is in Sea Point, a popular tourist destination with visitors from all over the world. We have a second dwelling that we often rent to visitors.
When we travel, we both enjoy art galleries, art movies and artful conversation, pop, rock, blues and classical music, theater and strange sites to put on Instagram. We are easily pleased, laid-back and quietly satisfied with looking and learning from other countries and cultures. People are fascinating and human relationships captivating. It gives us great pleasure when we have discussions about history, socio-economic issues and possible solutions to finding peace on this uniquely placed planet in the magnificent universe.
While saving and planning our next trip, we live with our three cats by the motto: Do unto others as you would them do unto you.
