Quiet, mature living in the heart of historic Hyde Park. Lush, crisp, fresh hotel linens and a goose-down mattress await in your guestroom of this centrally-located vintage garden apartment, with exposed brick & pipes for an authentic Chicago vibe. Great for the academic traveler spending time at the University of Chicago, the business traveler en route to McCormick Center, and tourists on a budget ready to live like locals as they explore all that Chicago has to offer. Dog lovers welcome!
Your queen guest room in my home awaits: comfortably sleeps one or a couple. Business travelers, academia, medical staff and leisure travelers all welcome! While you will only be paying for a private room, you will be allowed access to my entire apartment: to use my fully-equipped kitchen, living room and office are quite a value-added when you compare my low room rate to that of the much higher rate for an entire apartment, often times furnished with a lumpy bed, scratchy mismatched towels, and few luxuries of home.
Hyde Park boasts some of the finest dining and entertainment venues in the city, as well as many outstanding parks, museums and festivals so there is always something cultural and exciting to do here. Your evenings don't have to be spent staring at CSpan in some lousy hotel room -- join me instead!
If you're traveling to Chicago on business, this is the ideal alternative to another boring, overpriced hotel room in the Loop. With easy access to Metra trains, CTA buses and L trains, Divvy bikes, and ZipCars you'll have no trouble making it into the Loop or up to McCormick Center if that's your destination.
For doctors on rotation at UC, visiting faculty and grad students: my place is less than one mile to UC's academic and medical facilities. You can walk there easily, or use public transportation at a very nominal fee to get there quickly (details below).
Street parking is available on my block for free. Some of the surrounding blocks are metered so please be cognizant of where you're parking. If there are no immediate spots available, park in the Treasure Island/Walgreen's shopping center parking lot, located on the northwest corner of 55th and Lake Park. Find a spot near Potbelly's. It's only a 1/2-block walk to me from there; once a parking spot opens up on my street, you can then just move your car. The shopping center lot has patrolmen so your car will be very safe.
Upon your arrival, please scroll through the courtyard's security box for my surname to gain access; this process will then be repeated for my building. Should either security box be out of order, I am available by cell phone.
You will be provided with your own key to access the apartment. Lost keys replacement charge: $50. Unruly guests will have their key privileges revoked.
Drop me a line so we can chat and discuss your customized stay in Chicago. I offer a real "at home" bed and breakfast experience and would love to tell you more about me, the space, the Hyde Park neighborhood or your destinations.
Общение с гостями
I live in the apartment full-time and am readily available should you ever need me. I don't rent out any additional rooms to others.
Because my place is relatively intimate, I find guests who are comfortable being social and are not too introverted have been the happiest guests here. That doesn't mean you need to be a social butterfly -- we will interact as little or as much as you like. I enjoy a little privacy too, so we will work out a respectful balance. I want you to feel like you're staying with family -- your favorite Aunt, perhaps :)
Please remember though that I actually live here on a day-to-day basis and my life does not get put on hold when I'm hosting. I have friends & family who will visit periodically. Of course, you're more than welcome to join us for a glass of wine, popcorn and a movie in the living room -- remember, while you're here, you're family too!
You may reach me by phone, text or iMessage in addition to the conversation options here on AirBnB if I am away from the apartment and you need something.
Другие важные подробности
I PROVIDE A CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST: rolls, croissants, or bagels; fresh fruit; cold cereal or hot oatmeal; coffee, tea, protein smoothies, or juice; and milk for your cereal. If you want something more substantial, there's a French bakery and an American Diner both one block away that serve hot breakfasts. Also you're welcome to use my frying pans, pots etc. if you'd like to cook a hot meal of your own, but you'll need to go buy your own groceries at the market up the street.
THERE IS A SEVEN-POUND TOY POODLE ON THE PROPERTY. She is very affectionate and will definitely want to sit in your lap -- as all lap dogs do when they like you. If this is not something with which you are comfortable, then perhaps this may not be a comfortable stay for you. If you like dogs however, you are going to LOVE her -- she's very well trained (only barks at intruders and is paper-trained for night-times and inclement weather), the best cuddler ever and will always happily greet you at the door!
PLEASE READ THE HOUSE MANUAL (it will become available to you upon booking, once your reservation is confirmed).
I'd love to talk to you about your upcoming trip to Chicago and help you plan the best stay possible. Feel free to drop me a line here on AirBnB so we can make this the best AirBnB stay you've ever had! Don't see what you're looking for? Just ask!

Подробнее об этом номере
1.Must like little lap-dogs, and be ok with mine sitting in your lap.
2.No street shoes in my home: please bring slippers or be prepared to go barefoot or in socks.
3.Please be quiet while in the courtyard and building lobby so as not to disturb my neighbors -- and don't let the gate slam.
4.If you need help, ask me -- not my neighbors. Interaction with my neighbors is considered a nuisance by my landlord and is forbidden.
5.Please ensure the bathroom door stays closed during the overnight hours, to restrict the dog.
6.No heavy perfumes, heavy colognes or heavily scented lotions.
7.Visitors are negotiable (ask).
8.Convey your travel plans early: please be considerate and let me know as soon as possible what time you expect to arrive for check-in. It's not fair to expect me to sit here for hours awaiting your possible arrival. I have work, appointments to keep and errands to run, sometimes quite far from Hyde Park. To expect me to drop everything and drive (what can sometimes be an hour) back to greet you on moment's notice is not kind.
9.If you're traveling with a companion, please ensure you familiarize them with ALL the house rules so they can follow them as well.
10.If you require a late checkout time, please ask for that exception prior to confirming your booking, not at 10am on the day of your checkout. Some days I can accommodate a late checkout, other days I cannot -- advance warning is in your favor :)
11.If you "borrow" any of my groceries, please replace them. The exception to this of course would be the use of my condiments: since it would be impractical for you to buy a big bottle of mayonnaise or ketchup for a three-day stay, feel free to use a squirt or two of mine. (But if you're making a stew that requires two cups of ketchup, go buy a bottle of your own, fair enough?) Please don't drink two gallons of my organic milk or eat all my brie and think I won't notice. It's ridiculous to me that I've even had to include this in my house rules, but I've actually had some guests eat my fridge and pantry bare! Not gracious at all - don't be that person.
12.No illicit drug users, or drunks.
13.Agree to read the House Manual (that will become available after booking is confirmed), and adhere to all its stipulations. If you can’t find it, ask me for a copy. If you’re unable to adhere to its protocols, you agree that you'll cancel your booking.
14.Have fun in Chicago!

Don't go to Chicago -- LIVE in Chicago!
Bienvenue!! на здоров'я! I am a friendly Ukrainian-Canadian who now lives in Chicago's historic Hyde Park district. I know the city well and love going on culinary field trips around our great city. Nothing makes me happier than discovering a new dining treasure or a big fat Polish dog from Maxwell Street at 3 in the morning!
I'm the mother of three adult children, a grandma, and a servant to my spoiled little poodle. I enjoy a wide breadth of music, cultural festivals and dining at mom-and-pop restaurants. I also enjoy curling up under a fluffy blanket with a good book and a cup of tea on my quiet down days.
I believe that hospitality is something we should offer to every person, every day. Hosting makes me happy. I genuinely enjoy getting to know each and every one of my guests who arrive as strangers and depart as friends.
Be kind to one another. Safe travels!!
