Open loft space, about 800 square feet in a mixed-use loft-style condo complex on the hip and happening east side of Austin. Clean, contemporary lines with open industrial ceiling, huge windows and a wrap-around balcony. Very artistically decorated, nice kitchen and bathroom, wrap-around balcony. 2nd-floor unit, secure locked building with intercom entry. Extremely central location, 1 mile to downtown and walkable with restaurants, bars, coffee shops, galleries, shops etc.
Lots of natural light flows in from the huge windows, and vintage light fixtures hang from the open metal-beam ceiling. The place is colorful, artistically decorated with original artwork and collections from my travels around the world. My loft is on the second floor, in a very secure locked building with an intercom entry system. There is no elevator, stairs only (one flight). One covered/secure parking spot inside the gate, with free street parking available as well.
Full kitchen and nice bathroom; with the living/dining/sleeping areas in one large open loft space. The wrap-around balcony is filled with flowers, herb plants, lighting, with a glider and hanging macrame chair for sitting outside. It's a lovely spot to chill with coffee or a glass of wine.
The bed is queen-sized, and in the living room I have a European convertible sofa that folds out flat to a bed, making two separate twin beds or one double size bed. My place is best for two people, but can accommodate three (not a lot of privacy though, as it's all open). This is not really suitable for small children, but a baby or older children are welcome if they are okay with a sleeper sofa or you have a portable crib.
I also have an elliptical machine and exercise bike you are welcome to use, and East Side Elite fitness gym at the end of the block (6th and Calles) gives a one-week free pass. Blackbird Fitness is also just 3 blocks away. For yoga I recommend Stretch and Practice yoga studios, both on 6th street between my condos and I-35.
This is an extremely artsy neighborhood on the very creative East side of Austin, filled with entrepreneurs, art studios, boutiques, bars, urban farms and some of the best restaurants in town. The complex is a multi-use, live/work development with businesses on the ground floor. Neighbors include photographers, artists, sculptors, screenwriters, film directors and more. The complex has 6 buildings, all around a very large interior courtyard with lots of green space, a covered pavilion, common areas with tables and chairs, and an organic garden.
All in all, a cool urban loft in the most happening part of Austin, where you can walk to lots of things and get downtown very easily, especially via the B-cycle station outside my door or pedicab and rideshare such as Uber or Fare.
This IS an urban location - if you want to stay here it's because you want to be in the middle of the city, not on the outskirts. It's great because walking distance to a LOT of cool bars, restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, shops and galleries nearby. However, that means it is not always suburban quiet here. It can be noisy sometimes since you're in the middle of the city, especially on weekends. I rarely have a problem with loud, late night noise. I do have a white noise machine just in case.
NOTE: If you have seen in reviews mention of a cat, Sebastian, who lives here - he now lives with my daughter and is no longer a resident. So there will be no pets here at all. Sebastian was a big draw for many guests (one even left him an illustrated note!) but he has grown tired of the limelight.
Covered parking inside the gate, with street parking available as well. I do have a reserved parking space for one car in the back of the building, covered and within the locked gates that I can make available with gate clicker, if you let me know in advance that you will have a car. Guests also have access to the common space in the courtyard and covered pavilion, with chairs and tables.
Общение с гостями
I am totally available via telephone or email for any questions or needs. That said, I leave guests alone to enjoy their privacy and time here unless they need anything.
Please be sure to check out all my reviews on my profile page, I have many more than the one that's on this listing!

I'm Shelley, a journeyer and learner of the world, freelance journalist and author, yoga chick and dog lover. I pound the keyboard from home barefoot every day, and while my boss is demanding she also occasionally lets me have the early afternoon cocktail. I think not going into an office or collecting corporate paychecks are very good ideas, though not always profitable. I have written for National Geographic, USA Today, The Guardian, Texas Monthly and CNN, among others. Neither the New York Times nor Johnny Depp have answered my letters yet.
I love yoga, indie movies, wine, and books, though not necessarily in that order. I believe in karma. Mean people suck. If I could have any dream job I would like to be a superhero. I have performed a catch on the flying trapeze, boarded down a live volcano and was once robbed by a monkey in Nepal. But, I don't know how to whistle.
My mantra is "travel with a purpose."
