Mary Ann paid €120 per night to sleep 8 people in my house, which is €15 per person per night, including parking. To put this in context, a mixed bed dorm in a hostel in Galway without parking costs €27.50 per bed per night. The house is clearly and accurately described - it has 2 king sized bedrooms, both with excellent beds and top quality mattresses, a kids bedroom with bunk beds, both standard sized single mattresses, the same size as any other single bed, but they are kids beds and the quality of a kid's mattress is designed for the weight of a child, not what are effectively two adults. The fourth bed is a sofa bed downstairs in the second sitting room, and like most sofa beds, they are rarely suitable for prolonged stays. It's fine for a night as an overflow bed. Mary Ann booked about 6 months in advance and would have had a wide selection of homes to choose from in Galway. She picked my house, rather than a house with four adult sized bedrooms with say 4 double bedrooms to sleep 8 adults, which she could have done, probably because it would have cost more. My house sleeps 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 visitors / teenagers who don't care much about what they sleep on.
There is clear instructions in the house on how to turn on the hot water, so Mary Ann could have heated the water more often if she needed to. She didn't contact me about it.
The normal check in time for the house is 12 midday. Mary Ann asked if she could check in early for 11am, and I said I would try to get there for around 11am. My family and I were also flying out that day from Dublin to France, so it was very busy trying to get a baby and my other kids out the door and do the final pack which always seems to take longer than planned. At 9.30am that morning, I realised that i wouldn't make it into Galway by 11am so I messaged her on the Airbnb app at 9.30 to advise her that I wouldn't be there until 12 midday and to send her my apologies. Mary Ann didn't turn her phone on and so she didn't get this message, but that's not my fault - I contacted her well in advance and normal check in time is 12 midday anyway. She arrived very early, around 9am I understand, and instead of parking her car and walking 2 minutes up the road to get some breakfast and go to the bathroom, they all sat in the car, bursting to go to the toilet, for 3 hours, waiting for me. They also rang Airbnb to complain, and I had about 5 calls that morning while I tried to sort out my kids and do my final packing because of the hour's delay. I left Mary Ann a nice bottle of Bordeaux on the table, which she clearly didn't even notice by this review, and I spent 35 minutes going around the house and dealing with all their questions. I offered her daughter's husband a cup of tea and he said that they were all fine. I spent 35 minutes talking to them, but we did have to go as we ourselves had a flight to catch later that afternoon from Dublin. Mary Ann also left numerous empty bottles of booze in the glass recycling bin. We left a huge glass bin outside which was almost empty, and when she left, it was full to the brim, so I'm surprised she can ever remember anything about her trip, judging by the amount of booze they got through, and I am also surprised that her family would allow a 70 year old woman, who just had her knee replaced, to sleep on a sofa bed, instead of giving her one of the proper bedrooms upstairs. These are not nice people. I have decided after listening to all of this that I am not going to let out my house again on airbnb. They pay half of what they'd pay to sleep in a mixed dorm in a youth hostel, and then they are so rude and ignorant to deal with.
