Beautiful, rustic, boutique chateau with large pool lying in the heart of tranquil, rural France and surrounded by acres of private fields, woods and streams. Lots of activities, good restaurants and historic sites nearby.

Immerse yourself in the history, style and facilities of our original 17th century boutique chateau at very affordable prices. Eco chateau sleeps up to 20 people - perfect for a large group of friends or family, an event, wedding, birthday or relaxing retreat.

The magical powers of this property help you relax in an instant. "This chateau is like stepping straight into a film" as one guest put it. And another guest wrote: "an incredible, beautiful, historic chateau that dates back to the 17th century. The moment we rolled through the gates of the chateau, we knew we'd made an outstanding choice in terms of accommodation - this place surpassed all of our expectations. Not only was it in one of the most lush and beautiful regions of central France, but it was gorgeously furnished and decadent in it's size...."

With a huge 12x7 meter salt water swimming pool, abundant verdant land to roam around in, it is the perfect place to unwind. (please note the swimming pool only open between the end of May to the end of September).

Or if you relax by getting active, there are lots of natural world activities to indulge in nearby as well as bijou restaurants serving delicious cuisine and fascinating history to explore.

There are 9 bedrooms (4 of them interconnecting) and 4 bathrooms, a large elegant dining room and living room and a huge farmhouse kitchen equipped for 25. It is full of original antiques, cosy furnishings, sleigh beds, huge open fireplaces, 34 acres of fields and woods and its own stream.

For musicians, there is a good piano. Other facilities include a pingpong table, table football, DVD player with a small library of DVD's to watch and a widescreen satellite TV.

Set on the edge of the fascinating Dordogne region of France, near the medieval town of Argentat, we are surrounded by lakes, forests and gorges: one of the 'wildest' and most unspoilt parts of France. And there is an abundance of delicious local and regional cuisine, restaurants, ancient villages and historical sites within the area. Day trips to Collonges la Rouge, Rocamadour and other 'plus belles villages de France' are wonderful.

The chateau is fully centrally heated and ideal for mid season and winter breaks too. Big roaring fires and long winter walks., skiing 1.5 hrs away in the Massif Central mountains. Lots of activities in mid and summer season such as canoeing, rock climbing, hang gliding, cycling, walking & hiking, golfing and more (see below).

Catering & childcare are available by arrangement.

The chateau is 5 minutes drive from the welcoming village of Saint Privat which has all conveniences including two bakeries, two small supermarkets, a post office, banking, restaurants, bar and tabac. There are weekly markets here and in many of the surrounding towns and villages.

On your doorstep there is the beautiful Lac de Feyt with a bathing beach (including a life guard) and boats for hire. Here you can also find tennis courts and a small restaurant. There are some bicycles at the chateau for riding around the lanes and to the lake. Horse riding is a mere ten-minute drive away and the fabulous experience of canoeing on the Dordogne river is just 20 minutes away in Argentat. Without going far you can enjoy the rolling hills, the peaceful surroundings, walking amongst the lakes and forests and the sense of space and openness. There is abundant wildlife in the area and deer and wild boar can be seen frequently. There is very little traffic and it is possible to drive for long periods without meeting any other vehicles.

Beyond Argentat you can explore the Dorgogne valley full of fascinating villages, chateaux and caves. Nearby we have the spectacular ruins of the Tours de Merle, a medieval fortress.

To the west are a group of villages identified as being amongst ‘Les plus belles village de France’, amongst them, Collonges-le Rouge, the red city and Turenne, a 15th century village whose high pitched roofs surround two castles from which the foothills of the Massif Central can be seen.

Also to the west is the Dordogne valley, there are a wealth of towns and villages such as Argentat, Beaulieu sur Dordogne, La Roche Canillac, Loubressac, Autoire, Carennac and Martel. The Chateau de Bac, Chateau de Soulages, Chateau de Rieu, the Chateau de Val and the Chateau Rilhac-Xaintrie are all close by, while the citadel of Rocamadour is only 50 minutes drive away.

For those wishing to explore a little further afield, the world famous cave paintings of Lascaux, and La Chapelle aux Saints, site of the discovery of the oldest Neanderthal man, can be reached in two hours, along with the many other attractions of the Lower Dordogne area. The Cahors, Bergerac and Bordeaux wine regions are also within easy reach.

For those seeking more active pursuits, there is a wide choice ranging from horse riding, canoeing down the Dordogne River, tennis, golf, cycling (there are some bicycles at the house & others can be hired) to hot-air ballooning and hang gliding.

There is also an excellent aqua park 20 minutes drive away, providing hours of enjoyment for children. Other activities include: relaxing, aromatherapy massage, walking, mushroom picking, hiking, hangliding, archery, tree climbing, orienteering, mountain biking and bungy-trampolining. The Massif Central mountains are an hour and a half’s drive away where there are a number of ski resorts so it is possible to drive for a day’s skiing.

Cultural activities and events take place in many of the towns nearby with concerts and performances throughout the summer. There is the famous Festival of Sedieres, held in the nearby Chateau de Sedieres, a music, film and art festival running over a 6-week period every year from mid July. See their website here.

If you are in search of gastronomic delights, there are numerous local restaurants serving delicious local dishes and a list of the best is here at the chateau. Local specialities such as truffles, walnuts, cassoulet, confit de canard and cabecou cheese are a must. The famous wine region of Cahors is an hour’s drive away.

There are a number of shops in the nearby village and you can buy organic milk, cheeses, fruits and vegetables from a nearby farm or from the local markets. There is a very good local restaurant just 5 minutes walk from the chateau and they can also deliver meals. There more restaurants within easy driving distance.

To unplug from the matrix and have a REAL holiday it's hard to beat the 17th century Chateau de Cautine. Set in an untouched part of France, the chateau sits on a rise in a tiny hamlet, overlooking its 34 acres of fields, forests and streams. This small, intimate chateau just wants to open its doors, shutters and heart and welcome people in. The serenity and tranquillity make the mind go almost as quiet as the surrounding countryside. Virtually no cars, no airplane contrails, no hum of a nearby motorway, no people spilling out all raucous on a Friday night from any local drinkerie. It’s just you; playing by the pool, eating dinner under the tree in the garden overlooking the valley, seeing a shy deer or two or strolling through the land as your own. It’s the simplest of steps from the busyness of business to the simplicity of this rural retreat. A stroll away is a lake and tennis courts. A short drive and you have all the high octane adventure you can want. But inside the gates, breathe this energising unpolluted air, eat delicious fresh local fare and feel yourself come back home in this special corner of Richard the Lionheart country!

We have held 5 beautiful weddings at our chateau. Either organise things yourself with a bit of help from us or pay our local specialist wedding organiser to take care of all the details. We work with local companies to bring together all the services you may need. Reception space is in our open-sided barn with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. We can help you with full catering and all peripheral services & organisation for your event.

I have spent the past few years running our chateau as a holiday rental. We have had many very happy guests and have met some wonderful people. The best thing about it is seeing guests arrive and their reactions to the stunning setting and fascinating house. Many have said it is so much more beautiful in real life than in the photos, even though the photos are great.

In the past six years, I have also dedicated a lot of my time to the development of Eco Chateau, a permaculture and ecological housing development on the chateau property. We hope to start this soon.

I also run a small Thai & Southeast Asian restaurant in Cornwall, and I spend some of my time there.

We look forward to meeting you here at the chateau and to helping to make your holiday the best ever!
