I lived with Aunty Sheila for about two and a half months while in Colombo for an internship, and I feel so incredibly lucky to have chosen this place. Aunty is such a kind, sweet, generous person, and I loved hearing all of her stories about her life and Sri Lanka past and present. I shared many meals with her as well, and it was some of the best food I had in Sri Lanka! Overall she made me feel very welcome, and my time living with her was one of the highlights of my experience in Sri Lanka.
The house itself is large and breezy, and I felt very comfortable spending time in my room and in common areas. The wifi worked well. Her staff is also very kind and helpful. Finally, the house is very secure and I always felt safe there. There is a wall and gate around the entire compound, the house it routinely kept locked, and the room locks as well. The neighborhood is also very nice; a few good shops and cafes nearby, and walking distance to more on Galle Road, Colombo 7, etc.
Two things to note, although not negatives by any means: the house has several (well-behaved) cats, but if you have any severe allergies perhaps consider other options. Also, Aunty is an 84-year-old woman, and she and her staff have quiet habits. This place was great for me, as I was working Monday-Friday and tend not to go out too much, but if you think you will have late nights, many guests over, etc, this may not be the best fit.
