Hillside villa with spectacular views in Tuscany's unspoilt Lunigiana region. Enjoy a taste of traditional village life within easy access of beaches and mountains, historic cities and picturesque villages. Sleeps 5 (2 bedrooms).

Жилье
Casa della Vigna is a beautifully restored village house with an extensive garden and wonderful views. The house is all on one level, with an open plan living and dining room, well-equipped kitchen, two good-sized bedrooms and a shower room.

From the rear of the house, French doors lead out onto the large south-facing terrace, which offers complete privacy, a choice of sun or shade, and panoramic views, complete with barbecue, table and chairs. The view stretches from the Carrara mountains in the east out towards the Bay of Poets in the west. Benefiting from summer's long sunny days, the garden is a fertile haven of wisteria, olive trees, irises and other local flora.

Stepping out of the front door, you enter the Borgo, a steep passage which leads up through Sescafale village between and under neighbouring houses, where front doors are interspersed with the entrances to cool, dark cellars traditionally designed for storing home-made wine and olive oil. The Borgo is the most direct way to access the village's communal parking area.

Что доступно гостю
Guests have access to the whole house, with the exception of one room used for storage/cleaning materials. Guests are also welcolme to explore the terraced garden, which is particularly lovely in springtime.

The village of Sescafale is one of several on the hillside that are known collectively as Podenzana. Sescafale has no shops, but it does have a church, post office and several good restaurants (see Local restaurants below). From the house, in addition to exploring local woodland trails, you can walk up to the castle of Podenzana (closed to visitors) and the church of Our Lady of the Snows (Santuario della Madonna della Neve al Gaggio), both within a mile of the house and with spectacular views of the Apennine mountains.

The main town serving this part of the Lunigiana region is Aulla, located down in the valley at the confluence of the Magra and Aulella rivers. Approximately 10 minutes’ drive from the house, Aulla is the place to go for your everyday needs. There are several supermarkets, bakeries, cafes and gelaterias, as well as a Saturday market which takes over the centre of the town. Its historic centre having been destroyed in 1943 by Anglo-American air bombardments during World War II, Aulla is not a picture-postcard Tuscan town. However, it is a genuine working Italian town with an interesting history, thanks largely to its strategic location. It was initially established in the 8th century AD to accommodate pilgrims travelling the Via Francigena (see below), and evidence of earlier Roman and Etruscan settlements can be seen in the Church of Saint Caprasio. The sturdy Brunella Fortress, built in the 16th century and renovated in the early 20th century, is now privately owned and contains the Lunigiana region’s museum of natural history.

This Lunigiana villa has been in my family for 23 years and the village has hardly changed. We love this spot because of its unspoilt charm and traditional way of life, and we come back year after year. It's a great place to come to get away from it all and just relax on the terrace with a book and a glass of wine, but it also makes a great base for exploring, with good access to the mountains and the beach as well as to major tourist destinations such as the Cinque Terre, Pisa, Lucca and Siena. My parents are based in the UK and my wife and I live in Germany, so you would have the place to yourselves. That said, we are only an email or a phone call away if there's anything you need during your stay.
