We invite you to stay in our warm, inviting 2 bedroom farm house, situated on a horse farm in South Iceland. Our sweet house offers a great position just 81km from the capital Reykjavik; whilst offering easy access to the Golden Circle tourist spots!

The holiday home is set within our farm here at Arabaer. The accommodation offers a cosy and compact living space spread across a single level.

The property comprises of:

1st bedroom - double bed and ample wardrobe space
2nd bedroom - double bed, with bunk bed and camp bed, wardrobe.
Open plan living/dining/kitchen space - corner sofa which also pulls out to provide a double bed. There is a dining table with chairs, and a television and DVD player Kitchen - fully equipped with fridge/freezer, oven, hob, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery.
Bathroom - walk in shower, toilet and sink (small travel hairdryer)
Utility room with sink and ample space for outdoor clothing
The property is less than ten years old and wooden floored throughout (tiled in bathroom/utility). It is well maintained with clean and neutral décor throughout with all the necessities to act as your base away from home.

The property comfortably sleeps 6 but can accommodate slightly more with the camp bed and bunk bed. Children's travel cot and highchair also available on request.

The house is self contained and guests will have access to all of it during their stay. A small enclosed sun terrace wraps around half of the property with a gate leading in to your own enclosed garden. Currently there is no washer/dryer within the house itself, but there is access to use of these during your stay.
BBQ facilities are also available.

The house is fully licenced to let out, and as such has all the safety certificates for guests peace of mind, the house is equipped with a fire extinguisher and fire blanket.

We like to think of ourselves as easy going and informal hosts. As Arabaer is not only a working farm, but our home, it is likely there will be someone onsite at all times to help deal with any enquiries you may have during your stay.

We are a horse farm primarily breeding, training and selling Icelandic horses, and we happily invite you to meet these beautiful creatures throughout your stay with us.

There are a mixture of family and workers here, often of varying nationalities, and we are happy to chat with guests and offer advice on places to visit, eat, shop and so forth over a coffee.

As the holiday house is self-contained with a fully fitted kitchen it is also ideal for holidaymakers who are a little more independent and would prefer to keep to themselves, we welcome all types of guests!

Arabaer is ideally situated to experience an authentic , rural working Icelandic horse farm whilst still maintaining relative ease of access to the amenities of the nearest big town Selfoss (The largest town in South Iceland) only 26km away.

To the back of the property we have access through our land to the River þjórsá, and we are spoiled year round by breath-taking sunrises and sunsets. Views from outside the house take in some beautiful vistas with the mountain Ingólfsfjall, and volcano Hekla, in the distance. On a clear day Eyjafjallajokull (The ash cloud causing volcano) can be sighted from the back garden. You may also witness the majestic northern lights whilst staying at the house.

Many activities can be enjoyed onsite or in the surroundings including, horse-riding, fishing and hiking.

Arabaer is situated approximately 120km from Keflavik International Airport. We are easily accessible by road from the airport, with two main routes to us, and we are more than happy to help provide directions of how to get to us. There are not too many complicated road systems in Iceland so finding us should prove no problem!

The nearest public transport, bus, can bring you in to Selfoss (26km away). It is most likely though you will be travelling to us by hire car. During winter, as with most of Iceland, there can be quite a lot of snow around so if you plan to visit us at this time of year we suggest hiring a 4WD or car with good winter tires.

Once here there is plenty of parking available on the property.

The house has a sizeable utility room which can store all outdoor clothing, boots and shoes, which is ideal being on a farm. We are happy for guests to bring pets, we would kindly ask you do not allow them on the furniture though. We also ask you do not smoke in the house.
The house has open access to wifi for guests to enjoy, we would like to note though that the connection can occasionally be unstable during bad weather, though this is rarely a problem for long.

We want you to feel at home during your stay and hope you will treat the house in the same respectful manner you would treat your own.
Shoes are not to be worn in the house and guests must clean up after themselves. Most noticeable in the kitchen, with dishes etc.

Best rental on our Iceland trip by far!! Cottage was very well constructed and in great shape with everything you need for your stay. Deck outside looks out to horses and in the distance hills and (URL HIDDEN) beautiful. Louise was a great hostess and we had free range to explore farm and spend time with horses. We took advantage of horse back riding experience and I highly recommend it. Horses were sweet and calm and Louise led us on a trail down to river, it was such a great time . My daughters loved it so much they chose to go again the next morning rather than going to the Blue Lagoon before we flew out of Iceland. A great place to relax, close to beach, circle tour and more...10/10!!

Hi, I live here at Arabaer with my husband Saevar and our four young children. Arabaer is a busy working farm where we train, breed and sell Icelandic horses. We also farm vegetables including turnips and carrots, this keeps us all busy! I am originally from Scotland and have travelled, lived and worked abroad in several places including New Zealand and Holland before settling in Iceland around 9 years ago. My husband Saevar is Icelandic and grew up around here, we run the business together and enjoy our busy lifestyle with the farm, children, and various pets ;-)

We speak English and Icelandic here on the farm.
