Farmer’s Yard is a community of travelers in Canggu, Bali. We created this space in dedication to the principles of sustainable living, and to cater to those who seek an authentic travel experience.

We work to connect visitors to Bali with local neighbors and communities, instead of separating ourselves above and away from the traditional lifestyle here. The communal energy we create is frequently changing as friends come and go. It’s an endlessly exciting experience.

Our mission is to celebrate living in harmony with the earth and each other by challenging modern conceptions of sustainability and tourism in Bali, with aspirations of sharing this vision around the world.

The Farmer’s Yard works because we practice mutual respect and reciprocity. Though we are a small and humble operation with guests from all different backgrounds, we know the secret to instant community lies in taking a genuine interest in each other, and never infringing on each other’s space.

We operate on a community model of collaboration for daily tasks, such as maintaining the permaculture garden, preparing and cleaning up after meals, and just helping each other get the most out of our time in Bali (whether it be a single day or many months that you stay with us).

Every day is a different kind of adventure here, depending on what everyone feels like doing at the time. You are welcome to pitch in with the group for shared meals, or take care of your own food requirements.

Bali is a such a diverse place that we never get bored. More often, we just hang out in the yard at night, playing guitar, listening to music, and swapping stories.

Other than Puta replying late to my messages, the stay was great. Tom, one of the people who work there, treats you like family, not a tourist

The people were very warm and welcoming, but unfortunately we didn't get the cots that we expected and so we barely slept that night. The roosters are rather loud and there were a lot of bugs, so it kind of felt like camping. At night, however, people play guitar and sing and hang out, so if you are young and adventurous this may be a great place to save money and meet people.

This was one of the loveliest hostels I have ever stayed in. I don't think hostel is the right word. It feels like a little community with an ethos of equality between foreigners and locals, between ages and backgrounds, between whatever differences you find. A little community that cares about the plants and the animals and the ocean and share bread with any creature. And a little place that wants some responsibility- it isn't a place where you are the customer and simply consume, while others serve you and make everything ready-to-use. And the funny thing is that everyone there will spend incredible amounts of time helping you out, showing you where to go or how to do things or taking you there, but it's just because you're a person and a human and they care. The energy of the place is special. I hope nature-loving hippies keep creating it!

Very vibrant, another place that is great for solo travellers as you would get to meet many other travellers. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The common area was great for chilling, working, mingling! It also has great art pieces on the walls done by previous guests. I didn't get to meet Putu as he was travelling. You would definitely need a scooter to get around as nothing is walking distance, there is also a taxi stop 2 minutes away from the hostel. Simple, basic and fun!!

I've started the Farmer's Yard community hostel to bring back Responsible Travelers Back to Bali, it's a Place to share the great stories and great people to share them with!
Bali needs a shift from all this careless tourism. This is a small but precious start...
