We had a lovely peaceful 10-day stay at Ca Rossa. Franco was very welcoming, showing us around the property, each of the rooms, the garden and the different fruit trees, how to operate the pool pump etc. He gave us a local map, marking on possible places to eat and recommended some places to visit. Inside the villa was a huge pile of local leaflets & maps. The villa is very spacious for 6 people - this meant that we had two seating areas and plenty of room around the kitchen table. Upstairs is furnished traditionally (see photos). There is no air conditioning but you can keep the bedrooms cool by closing shutters & windows, and using the fans provided to circulate the air. Bed linen & towels changed after the first week. Kitchen well-equipped.
For us, the pool was perfect. I was nervous of staying somewhere with a professional pool in case our non-swimming 4 year old stumbled into it. You have to climb up and over a ladder to get into Ca Rossa's pool. With rosemary and lavender around it, it was very pleasant cooling off in there. The exterior photos of the house pre-date the pool. It is
adjacent to the west-facing wall of the house. Two of our group of five were nibbled a little by mosquitos at dusk, but fine once we got some repellent.
I was keen to stay within walking distance of basic shops so we did not need to drive for essential supplies. Ca Rossa is just off the main square in Ceneda, the southern part of Vittori Veneto. Within 2 mins walk is an excellent bakery, fruit & veg shop, cheese & butchers. All open in the morning and again in the late-afternoon, except the bakery which is mornings-only. Great local restaurant too, and your typical bar/cafe. Everybody is very friendly. There are few tourists in this part of town.
Good mobile signal, intermittent wifi but free wifi if you're desperate from the library opposite or Bar Duomo (the local coffee/beer place).
Franco was around most days, cleaning the pool, saying hello. He was away for a couple of days but told us when he was going and if we needed anything. One day we returned to find a bowl of huge fresh tomatoes on the table. And having found out that I liked prosecco, he appeared with a bottle for us. Nice touches. Both he and his wife Patricia were keen to ensure that we were comfortable and happy, and were very friendly and kind.
Huge supermarket 5 mins drive away. Serravalle, the other part of Vittorio Veneto, has many restaurants, gelaterias etc.
Thanks so much Franco & Patricia!
