A secluded, restored farmhouse nestled in the chestnut-forested foothills of the Apennines, just above the magnificent medieval city of Pistoia, named Italy's Capital of Culture 2017. A real paradise on the edge of a mountain wilderness - you won't want to leave! House is 10-minutes walk from the end of the paved road on a stone mule path - we'll transport your gear via 4wd.
La Rocchina is a mountain farmhouse in Tuscany, Italy, 12 km from the medieval city of Pistoia, which is halfway between Florence and Lucca. It is one of only three houses in a forest hamlet above the small hill town of Baggio. This idyllic, secluded house was fully restored in 2011 and is a perfect hide-away for holidays, family gatherings, retreats and outdoor activities. The spacious house has terracotta floors and ceilings, chestnut beams, while walls, screens and shutters on the windows.
The house is self-catering and has the following amenities:
Master bedroom (upstairs, sleeps 2 in double bed)
Bunk bed room (upstairs, sleeps 2 in single bunks or twin beds)
Bedroom/large living room with wood-burning stove (downstairs, sleeps 2 or 3 in single beds)
Stairway loft alcove (upstairs, sleeps 1 in single bed)
Small sitting room with wood burning stove (downstairs)
Well-equipped kitchen with gas cooker/oven and traditional wood-burning cookstove (downstairs)
Dining room (downstairs, seats up to 8)
Full bathroom (downstairs) and WC (upstairs)
Entry hall with open fireplace
Laundry and utility rooms in cellar
Electric hot water (except upstairs WC)
Purified spring water from taps – no bottled water required
All linens, towels and bedding provided
Removable screens on all windows
Outside piazza and paved terrace with eating area
No TV or landline, but good mobile phone signal

You will have the entire house and outside lawn areas and terraces to yourself. An attached house next door, with its own private terraces, belongs to good friends. We live in a separate house just 50m down the hill.

Getting to the house requires a 7-10 minute walk up a stone mule path from your parking place at the end of the paved road, or a 15-20 minute walk from the village bus stop. Guests should be reasonably fit and comfortable walking on uneven ground. We'll transport your luggage and groceries by 4wd on arrival and departure.
Groceries, wine etc. can be ordered and stocked in advance. No need to buy bottled water. The nearest village grocery shop is 2.5km in Villa di Baggio and the nearest supermarkets and daily street markets are 12km, in Pistoia - a 20 minute drive.
