It is impossible to foresee what can go wrong on a road trip across Europe, and it seems as if everything was going wrong for us when we drove into Sarajevo for a couple of days. One thing that went right, however, was managing to have Samir and Elma as hosts. They rescued us at the literal last minute when a different host had to cancel after double booking. Samir and Elma asked all the right questions regarding our sleeping arrangements and plans for travel to ensure we were comfortable, which we really appreciated. The space is spacious and perfect for a group of friends, or perhaps a family as there is a crib in one of the three rooms. The courtyard is beautiful, even in the dead of the winter. We were a quick walk from the city center and just a ten minute walk from the center to old town. The hosts waited up for us when we got stuck in a mountain storm and made several suggestions on local food to try (definitely go to Dveri if you’re able!) We ran into some unfortunate circumstances after arriving in Sarajevo that could have derailed our entire trip, but Samir and Elma made the situation much better than we ever could have hoped for. They are the most kind and generous people we’ve been lucky enough to meet in all of our travels and we are forever indebted to them. This city is beautiful and full of culture and history, a must see for anyone in the area. If you choose to see Sarajevo, try out Samir and Elma’s space for a truly special time in Bosnia.
