A stunning, stylishly furnished, decorated and spacious 100m² raised ground floor 2-bed, 2-bath apartment with a 20m² terrace overlooking lush tropically landscaped gardens, two swimming pools, gazebo & BBQ area and views to the sea and North African mountains beyond, set in a stylish development of terracotta-coloured Andalucian-style apartments in a prestigious gated community. Our beautiful apartment is set on the raised ground floor of Bonita Hills (direct pool and garden access from the apartment) in the upmarket and highly popular Upper Calahonda area of the Costa del Sol, so it is quietly residential, yet very close to all the amenities that the Sitio de Calahonda and the wider Costa del Sol has to offer.

The apartment is very much our own second holiday home, so it is stylishly furnished and decorated and has all the conveniences and media requirements that you would normally expect at home, certainly over and above what you would normally expect in a holiday rental apartment. Newly added are - a flat screen TV, DVD player (with USB interface), Humax Freesat Freeview player for UK free-to-view channels, Ipod station, CD player and a high-speed broadband internet router. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well appointed and stylish. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped and boasts granite work surfaces and high quality German appliances. All-in-all, a supremely comfortable home-away-from home.

Outside the apartment are lush well-maintained grounds, two beautiful swimming pools, shower & toilet facilities and a communal gazebo dining area. The first of the two pools is just steps away from our patio / terrace.

The main internal features of the apartment are a master twin bedroom with en-suite bath/shower, a second twin bedroom and family shower room, a fully equipped kitchen, tasteful lounge and dining area, as well as the attractive outside space.

The apartment is ideal for families (as it is away from the street and the hustle and bustle of the bars and restaurants and quiet in the evenings), small groups or golfers (120 courses in the Costa del Golf), and is a year round sun destination- spring golf, half term breaks, summer holidays, autumn golf and half term breaks as well as skiing in the Sierra Nevada in the winter months. It is amazing how warm the Costa del Sol is, even in December whilst being "up the hill" is never unbearably hot in the summer!

LOUNGE/DINING
The well equipped and stylishly decorated lounge leads directly onto the patio with stunning views over the beautiful tropically landscaped grounds and the nearest of the two swimming pools. It is equipped with two two-piece suites and an armchair, coffee table, fireplace, lamps and a dining area seating up to 6 people. On the rare occasions that guests are inside and not enjoying the beaches, golf, sights and restaurants of the area, a flat screen TV, DVD player (with USB interface), Humax Freesat/Freeview player, Ipod station, CD player and high-speed broadband internet router are all new for 2012. The TV offers local channels and the Humax box allows viewing of some free-to-air UK channels (fibre optic broadband and TV will be added in 2015) and the reception is excellent from the communal dishes. A range of movie DVDs and music CDs are available. Entry phone for the front gates and block door is located in the lounge.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is a cook's joy, particularly for a holiday apartment, with granite work surfaces and all the usual high-grade German appliances - fridge/freezer, stainless steel oven, ceramic hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, grill, dishwasher. It is also well equipped with crockery, cutlery, glassware, cooking utensils, pots and pans, etc. The kitchen is always well stocked with basic stock provisions and guests are encouraged to replace these basics when the run out.

UTILITY ROOM
Leading off the kitchen is a separate utility area with the hot water boiler, a washing machine, air dryer, sink, iron and ironing board and cleaning equipment. This is also used as a storage area for the patio cushions.

MASTER BEDROOM
The master bedroom boasts a double bed (which is usually parted to form two single beds), duvets and additional blankets, wardrobe storage space (the main part of the wardrobe is locked as contains our personal possessions) and patio door access to the terrace with views over the pool and gardens. There are two bedside tables with lamps and a ipod docking clock radio.

2nd BEDROOM
The 2nd bedroom, with views towards the mountains, has two single beds with duvets and extra blankets if required and plenty of wardrobe space. There is a single bedside table and reading light.

BATHROOMS
The master bedroom has its own en-suite with marble worktops, dual sinks, WC, bidet, bath with shower and shower screen. There is also a family shower room with shower cubicle, WC and sink. Towels and hair-dryers are provided in both bathrooms (please note - no beach towels are provided).

PATIO
Leading from sliding doors from both the lounge and master bedroom is a large, spacious and welcoming partially covered patio, with an outdoor dining table and 6 chairs and two loungers, all with cushion seating - perfect for relaxing with a book, al fresco dining or a glass or two of sangria in the evenings. A few step downs from the patio lead to the communal grounds and the first of two swimming pools, a gazebo seating area and BBQ facilities. The patio area offers wonderful views over the gardens, pools and to the sea and North African coast beyond and has lighting for the evenings.

OUTSIDE
The communal grounds and two swimming pools are a particular feature of the Bonita Hills development. Originally built in 2004 in a terracotta-coloured Andalucian style, the development is one of the best maintained in the area. The communal facilities are second to none - two large swimming pools, shower and toilet facilities, a covered communal dining area with BBQ facilities, the whole development is set in lush tropically landscaped grounds - looked after by full-time staff and a truly spectacular place to relax in the sun.

The first swimming pool is of a free-form and sits just a few paces from our patio terrace, so after swimming, you can simply retire back to the privacy of the apartment - it is like having your own private pool. The second pool is more formal, and is set on the lower level, down some steps, again in beautifully landscaped and maintained grounds. Neither pool is ever very busy, so it is very peaceful and relaxing.

The apartment is situated in a secure gated complex and is accessed from within a secure block. Parking is directly outside the apartment.

As well as our own patio furniture, the community provides loungers around the pools and there is a covered dining gazebo. Around the pools are showering and toilet facilities.

Whilst smoking is "not encouraged" in the apartment, guests are welcome to smoke on the patio terrace.

Some (small) pets are allowed to stay in the apartment, but please note that pets are not allowed in the communal areas. Please ask for more details.

I have a set of golf clubs stored in the utility room, which guests are welcome to use, provided they are looked after like your own and cleaned after use. Sorry, no golf balls provided!

We bought this apartment in 2011, and upgraded it with lots of new media and kitchen equipment, soft furnishings, etc.

We welcome all comments (both positive and negative) and suggestions, to ensure that you have a great stay and that this is a holiday home you will want to return to again and again.

All apartment and urbanisation facilities at guests disposal.

Local agents will manage all visitors, hand over keys, etc.

IMMEDIATE LOCALITY
There are several restaurants (including Miel y Nata), bars (Johnny's Bar) and a small supermarket with a few minutes walk of the apartment and a "road train" runs between lower Calahonda (the El Zoco area) every hour during the day for just €2 one way or €3 return.

CALAHONDA
Down in El Zoco (3km) there are many restaurants, bars, shops, banks, ATMs, doctors, newsagents, foreign exchange facilities,
Other shopping facilities in Calahonda include Los Cipresses and Los Olivios, where there are supermarkets, banks, ATM machines, pharmacies, doctors, dentists, bars, restaurants, etc.

The nearest beaches are just a few km away, with, amongst many others, Cabopino Beach (3km) declared a Natural Monument for its pristine sand dunes.

Golf is well catered for locally, with about 16 courses within 10 minutes drive from the apartment including La Siesta (2km) - a nine hole par three course with driving range, bar and restaurant and Cabopino (4km)- a full 18 hole course with bar, restaurant and grass driving range. At La Cala Golf (5km) there are excellent three courses.

Tennis, gym, sauna and steam rooms and other sports facilities are available just a few km away from the apartment at the Club del Sol, where reasonable daily and weekly rates are offered.

FURTHER AFIELD
- Department stores - the main store is El Corte Ingles at Fuengirola, Malaga, Marbella and Mijas Costa.
- Supermarkets - SuperSol is the main supermarket chain, at Los Olivios, El Zoco and Mijas Costa.
- Outlet Malls - Playa Major at Malaga near the airport, with all the normal outlet bargains.
- Doctors, dentists, clinics and pharmacies - all close at hand in Calahonda.
The community around Calahonda is a mixture of locals as well as holiday home owners from northern Europe. Most shop assistants speak fluent English (and many are English owned and operated).

BEACHES
Because Calahonda is on the coast and slap bang in the middle of the Costa del Sol, there is large choice of beaches from quiet intimate spots to the hustle and bustle of the main tourist beaches. There is the main Calahonda beach (3km or 5 minutes drive) - La Luna beach, which is a smaller more private beach with its own beach huts and shower facilities or you could visit Puerto Cabopino (again just 3km away), which is Calahonda's own port. The port is particularly quaint when lit up at night and has several excellent restaurants, bars and cafes, including one with a Saturday Flamenco show. To the side of the port there is ample parking for the beach. The beach is long with golden sand (declared a national monument!) and a large well-equipped beach bar, showers and toilet facilities. It has all the water sports that you would hope to find as well as sun loungers, parasols etc. The famous Niki Beach (4km) is a private beach club with restaurants, bars and extensive water sports. Also consider Andy's Beach at Cabopino, La Cala beach and Fuengirola beach.

GOLF
The Costa del Sol is also known as the Costa del Golf, boasting around 100 courses, many of championship standard, with green fees ranging from €40 to €300++ (at Valderrama for example). OTHER SPORTS & LEISURE
The Club del Sol just down the road (1km away) offers reasonable day or week passes for tennis, gym facilities, steam rooms and saunas. Horse riding is also available locally.

Very comfortable stay at Malcolm's apartment, has all the facilities you need. His agents were there to meet us, even though we arrived late at 1.30am. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed, to make it a relaxing and stress free stay. I would recommend this …
