Set in the middle of 30 acres of forest & meadow, this house is surrounded by wildlife, stone walls, and hiking trails. It's a peaceful paradise accessed by a beautiful country road. Getting there you'll be on one of the top 10 foliage routes in the US. The house is fully equipped, comfortably lived-in, and ready for you. It has everything you need except a quick trip to the grocery store.
During the winter, this is perfect for snowmobilers as the VAST trail is easily accessible.

Жилье

This property comfortably accommodates 6 people in three bedrooms and 2 floors. There is a full bath on both floors.
This historic house, which is a testament to early farming in Vermont, was fully restored in 2004, including the attached barns. The surrounding open fields bordered by stone walls and forest are the perfect setting to "unplug" from urban life and reconnect to simplicity and nature. You can sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch and listen to the birds or view the incredible night skies where you'll see more stars than you knew existed.

Доступно гостям

You will have complete access to the whole house & barns and surrounding acreage. There are clearly marked forest trails circumnavigating the property. There is also a trail access to the east that will lead you to a large pond and beaver dam.
The VAST trail, a winter snowmobile trail, crosses our property and is perfect for spring, summer or fall hiking and exploring.

Общение с гостями

You will have this house to yourselves as the owner does not live there. A local farmer hays the property in the summer, which means infrequent visits.
You will probably see more more people go by on horses and bicycles than you will cars.

Другие важные подробности

This house is very close to MassMOCA in Williamstown. In Jacksonville, just 8 miles away, you'll find The Honora Winery, where you can sample wines or attend one of their many events. Not into wine, but love beer? Visit the J'Ville Brewery in the same building and sample their beers and bring home a growler. Next door is the Jacksonville General Store - a quintessential Vermont store with everything you need: Retail grocery, butcher shop, deli, beer & wine and Vermont products. And next door to that is the Spoonwood Cabin Creamy, where locally made (and really good!) artisanal cheeses are hand produced. Also in the village is Stone Soldier Pottery. Nearby are Sugar Houses where you can buy this years maple syrup and farms with local produce and eggs.
Keep on exploring and you'll find Sadawga Lake, known for its incredible kayaking and canoeing - there's a floating island in the middle! Not far from that is Harriman Reservoir, where you can swim, sun or paddle the day away.

This is a most genuine old farm house that in my opinion is perfect for launching pad for visits to Mass MOCA. It is very comfortable and the sense of history is palpable. The house, the provisions, and the farm are kept to perfection.

We (two couples) had a terrific stay in Vermont! The house is so much fun to poke around and the barn and the surrounding grounds. Everything was very clean and comfortable throughout the entire house. We had all we needed for cooking breakfast and enjoying our wine & cheese from the nearby, delightful Spoonwood Creamery. We made use of games from the game closet and perused the bookshelves (for local and general information and entertainment). Very easy check in and out. The location is great for exploring that area of Vermont and also just over the border in Mass. One caution in bad weather - we arrive after heavy rain coming from the south and the unpaved road was really terrible (we have a Prius, not a 4 wheel drive). If the weather is bad it's much better to approach from the north.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Amos Brown house. The location is secluded and quiet, but not far from the town of Wilmington, which has tons of adorable shops and cafes and a beautiful reservoir with mountain views for swimming. The house itself is large, comfortable, and full of interesting historic details. It was really fun to explore. For kids and families, there are lots of games (board games, table tennis, croquet, badminton).

It felt like we were living in America's history. We found everything in perfect order when we arrived, and made full use of the grounds. Everything was perfect; even the pillows were perfect and all six of us remarked on how comfy they were. By sunrise of day one, we realized just how secluded we were. About 5-6 cars drove by our entire stay. I saw more deer in the property's pastures. If you are looking for a farmhouse set on a beautiful property, I do not think you could do better. Plus, it is on the Landmarks Trust, and instead of turning it into a museum, it seems like they want people to experience a life long forgotten (but with modern amenities).

It was very private but not a good place for children. If you are taller than 6' 2" don't go upstairs. Kitchen was nice but the house needs to be finished before it is rented in the future.

The Amos Brown farmhouse is a charming piece of history situated on a lovely meadow in a secluded area. It's the perfect place to relax, unplug, and reconnect. We had such a lovely time - our dog Fio especially enjoyed romping through the meadow! Thanks
