Жилье

Kokoro offers a unique environment where nature, architecture and art complement each other. Exposed fir beams and large glass windows are juxtaposed with an ancient tea house door, carved guardian figures from Bali, a deep Japanese tub with hand-painted tiles.

Surrounded by art and nature and the sound of our waterfall, one can relax into another way of being. It is a perfect antidote to life which is often lived at a hurried pace. Kokoro translates into English as "heart and mind as one" and our hope is that Kokoro offers a quiet respite for renewal or creative work. The grounds are extensive and guests are invited to explore walks through woods and meadows, the waterfall and spring-fed pond which offers great swimming in season. The beauty of nature is complemented by an abundance of art and stone sculpture both indoors and out, much of which is created by B and Woody, the hosts of Kokoro.

Guests stay in a separate apartment which is completely private with its own entrance and deck and connects to the main house by a glassed in walkway. The rooms are comfortable in size with a living room, kitchen and bath on the first floor and two bedrooms up a stairway on the second floor. Each bedroom has one double bed. The apartment is comfortable and cozy, warm and well lit with a coffee maker, toaster oven, cook-top stove and many books and games to while away your time.

There is a telephone for local calls and a TV with satellite service. Most guests are able to access our internet server. Cell phone access is very limited.

We are pleased to greet guests and orient them to the house and property. We are available in case of need. Otherwise, our guests are able to enjoy Kokoro on their own schedule. Generally, we are in residence when guests are here. If we are away, we have a contact person who lives close by who can be called in case of emergency.

Kokoro is located on a quiet country road with very little traffic. The house is situated off the road, with views of the pond and waterfall areas. Although it is completely private, it is only 30 minutes from the charming college town of Middlebury, 40 minutes from skiing at Killington, Pico or the Middlebury Snow Bowl. We are close to Lake Bomoseen with lakeside dining and a beach in season, 20 minutes from quaint Castleton with the classic Birdseye Diner and a great wine shop, 15 minutes from Cafe' Provence in Brandon and 20 minutes from the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center which offers art courses and hosts the Marble Street Sculpture Park.

Our setting is rural, so guests need to have their own transportation. If guests are coming by plane or train, and are planning to remain at Kokoro and not travel on their own, arrangements can be made (for an additional fee) for us to pick you up and bring you back to the public transportation. We have an AMTRAK station in Castleton (20 min), and an airport in Rutland (30 min.) or Burlington, Vermont (75 min).

It is a special privilege and pleasure to share Kokoro with guests. We derive a great deal of joy in seeing folks bask in the aura of calm and exquisite nature that nurtures our daily lives and creativity.

A truly wonderful and unique experience, our stay at Kokoro was one we will remember for a long time. We were traveling as a group of 4, who don't see each other very often due to geographical distances, and we spent a lovely weekend in the peace and tranquility of Kokoro: cooking, enjoying the beautiful surrounding nature and each other's company. B and Woody were excellent hosts, welcoming and calm - especially after we accidentally set off the smoke detector while cooking one night - and B was great about offering suggestions for us to enjoy the surrounding property. The home was clean, comfortable and very interesting. One of our favourite things was the Japanese robes that were left out for us! I hope others will get to benefit from their generosity at this exceptional place!

B was great! I attended a wedding nearby with a couple friends and B worked with our late arrival and was really flexible about everything. The place was great, the property is beautiful, and we enjoyed our time.

The only true description of Kokoro is the experience itself. One of our family's most memorable places we have visited. Reshapes our thinking about what is possible in a short stay of four nights. Truly a moment of Japanese aesthetics and harmony. Our hosts were truly "simpatico" and we look forward to our next visit.

Place is in a remote part of VT; none of us had cell service, which we loved. It is a very reasonable distance from Killington with a number of food options along the way. The property is gorgeous and interesting. It is adjacent to the host's home making it easy to interact but still has plenty of privacy. B was extremely pleasant and her husband even made us espresso the second day before we left. They are very responsive. Would definitely stay again.

This is an absolute gem of a place. It is exquisitely designed and words truly cannot express the artist studio, the art itself, the architecture, the radiant heat from the floors, and the scenic views all around. B. Amore and Woody are great hosts and were highly communicative during the check-in and check-out process (despite our arriving super late). They provided great recommendations for nearby skiing and restaurants. We had the opportunity to chat with them on a wide variety of topics. The three day stay was absolutely perfect and would recommend it to anyone looking for a serene place to ground one's self.
