2nd floor of a Maison de Maitre. Many original features: high ceilings, marble fireplace & floor tiles. Good for couples, solo & business travellers. All bedlinen, bath and beach towels included in the rental. Guests may bring their dog.
Only a 5 minute walk from the town centre with bars & restaurants, 10 minute walk to the beautiful Port of Marseillan & town beach on the beautiful seawater lagoon of the Etang de Thau. 6kms to the lovely sandy beaches on the Mediterranean.
"Apartment Barral" - Once you reach the 2nd floor, you are faced with Art Deco glass doors and windows which enters into a spacious entrance hall. Immediately one has a feeling of being “on the top of the world,” and sharing a part of history in this elegant house. All the floors are laid with original antique, ornate, colourful and traditional Montpellier tiles. Leading off the entrance hall is a large double bedroom, a spacious bathroom and vast kitchen and separate sitting room. The apartment measures just over 1,184 square feet and was formerly used as the bedrooms of this impressive old house dating back to about 1850.
The apartment can sleep up to 4 people. In the bedroom is a very comfortable double bed with excellent quality "Morpheus" mattress and a fold down z-bed with a thicker than normal mattress (for a zed bed). In the sitting room there is a good quality single bed with "memory foam" mattress.
The apartment has 3 balconies, 2 at the front overlooking the street and 1 at the side overlooking other houses rooftops and the church. 2 chairs and a small table are provided to enjoy using anyone of these balconies.
All the windows and balcony doors are double glazed. A hairdryer is provided. Free to air British satellite television, dvds, books and board games for borrowing and free wifi.
Our guests access the vigneronne via a shared staircase to the first floor and then a shorter private staircase (with very shallow steps) to the second floor.
Maison Barral is a large and grand “maison vigneronne” split into 3 floors:
The ground floor - garage for carparking and utility room with washing machines - formerly used by the vignerons for wine production and stabling the horses which pulled the winecarts
The first floor - "Apartment Spencer" (where the owners, Sara & Jeff live)
The second floor - "Apartment Barral."
Both apartments have their own private entrances and are accessed via a beautiful winding, but gentle stepped elegant staircase. Apartment Barral is 1184 square feet in area (so quite large) and historically, was bedroom accommodation for the family. In the past, most of the houses in the street were used for wine cultivation and production, but nowadays, like Maison Barral, are now family homes or apartments. There is a feeling of being part of the industry that created the wealth in Marseillan during its heyday and today.
Maison Barral is located just outside the ramparts of the beautiful medieval village of Marseillan and is conveniently located for easy level access to the village, port and town beach which are all within a 5-10 minute walk. As the house is not within the centre of the village, parking is very easy, either on the street or in our garage. The apartment is on the top floor, it is bright and airy and the views from all the windows are far reaching across the village, church, the headland Saint Loup at Cap D’Agde and occasionally in the right light, the peak of Canigou in the Pyrenees.
Общение с гостями
There is a lot of information provided in the apartment (in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Swedish) for our guests about the apartment, the wifi internet and tourist information. There is also a folder in the apartment which includes the history of the town, port and area. As we (Jeff and Sara) live on the first floor of this Maison de Maitre we are happy and able to give advice or information to our guests if and when required.

Marseillan Town and Port - Location
“Like St Tropez probably looked before Brigitte Bardot decided to grace the beach there (Marseillan) is staggeringly pretty, with one of the most unspoiled ports in France. You can while away many an afternoon at the Château du Port restaurant, drinking wine and watching the boats go by….. “
Helena Frith-Powell, “Mad About The Med”, The Sunday Times, June 4th 2006

I am married to Jeff and we have both lived in Marseillan since 2014. He is retired but I am an artist and paint in acrylics and occasionally watercolour. We are both British and have lived in France since 2001. We are both very outgoing and enjoy our lives in Marseillan and have a wide circle of friends. We have both travelled extensively during our lives and love to meet people from all over the world and sample all sorts of cuisine. Essentially we are very much "foodies" and also enjoy the wonderful wines of the Languedoc Rousillon.
We will endeavour to make your stay in Apartment Barral a memorable and happy one and have made the apartment very homely and comfortable with a very luxurious bed and large walk in shower in the shower room amongst other things.
We have run gites in France since 2002 but in the Ariege department in SW France, so have quite a bit of experience of being hosts and I have worked in the tourist industry as a flight attendant when I was younger. We look forward to welcoming you at Apartment Barral.
