Jean's Hudson River Penthouse is located in a Victorian Building on Grand St in the historic mansion district of Newburgh NY. It is only available as a furnished rental for a minimum of 30 DAYS. Please ask about renting it month to month for a longer period.

The ceilings are high which adds a gracious feeling of space and the living space is loft-like with a sunlit windowed 25 ft living space overlooking the Hudson River with an antique rocking chair and seating. This flows into the large dining room/Kitchen loft-like room area--perfect for spreading out-there is formal dining room furniture. There is a traditional gas-fired fireplace currently being modernized. It has three bedrooms: a master double with a brand new mattress in a mahogany antique frame, located along the back of the building, another double bedroom also with a brand new mattress without a door (curtain for the open arch) which is currently used as a working artist's studio overlooking a charming street view in the front , and then one bedroom which is set up with a single Civil War era sleigh bed with comfy pillows perfect for reading also located along the back of the building facing West which is sort of a wonderful closet as well- some couples have shared this but as one previous occupant noted "we really really like each other"! (CURRENTLY THIS BEDROOM IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATION AND STORAGE__THE CIVIL WAR SINGLE BED IS BEING USED IN THE LIVING ROOM _MADE UP AS A DAY BED. ) The original wood floors throughout have a steep pitch in places. ALL BED and BATH LINENS ARE LAUNDERED 100% for each new guest-- cleaning is up to you during your visit. I see I got dinged for cleanliness but you are your own maid during your visit so rate yourself for cleanliness!Perhaps that was for the building as a whole-- we are renovating and so things don't shine like they are new but we are shabby chic. Also Summer visitors must use our column fans and portable air conditioner and the River cross breeze as we do not provide central air conditioning. A former full-time tenant advised that he rarely used the air conditioning unit in the bedroom but you are welcome to use it during your stay. All proceeds from AirBnb help us in the project of restoration of the 277 Grand St building-hopefully these will help us acquire central heat and air-conditioning for next year. OUR DECORATION STYLE IS CLUTTERED. DON"T COME IF YOU DON"T LIKE ANTIQUES AND A NON-MOTEL HOTEL STYLE DECOR. There are vases, plates, plants, books, candles, and art. Some people think that is clutter. Those are things I like because they belonged to my mother, Jean. It is NOT a miminalist place. We are a traditional place which is lived in when it is not being used by Air bnb members. That makes it homey. Please don't review us and say that our rooms are cluttered. They aren't. We like that way of decorating. Look at the IKEA catalog. Real people live with stuff.

Доступно гостям

There is access to a small basic kitchen with an apartment-sized new gas oven, new frig/freezer, coffee maker and a dining room with a four chairs where you may take a meal or enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. There is a free to residents new washer/dryer downstairs on the street level for longer stays. WIFI and Television is available for extended visits. This is not a luxury building with a doorman, dishwasher, microwave, marble slab island--this is a place to escape from all that.

I will meet you at the Beacon Station Metro North Train or at DIA Beacon if you wish. Or, meet you at the door of the building when you arrive via $15 taxi from Beacon Station, or $1 ferry from Beacon Train Station. All local taxis in City of Newburgh are $5. flat rate to restaurants and waterfront or mall type stores out in the Town of Newburgh. There is a local bus that operates throughout Newburgh which stops right in front of our building. Parking is very available at all times and safe right in front steps away from the front entrance. A few exceptions are snow emergencies in which during the day, no parking because the snowplows are cleaning streets or on Thursdays we have to move cars to the opposite side of the street.

I will check in with you via text as needed and make suggestions in regard to dining or activities upon your request.

Only one front door key will be provided to guests. Any non-returned keys will trigger a lock changing fee for the actual costs and I assure you that you will not want to pay for the special security landlord system lock and keys we have.

QUINN who wrote the only negative review on here--immediately cancelled his Airbnb account under his real name because he did not want to be responsible for his review. What we consider "criminal behavior" in Newburgh NY is not even illegal in several other states-Colorado, Nevada, (URL HIDDEN) lighten up. The neighborhood is urban.

This is a retreat style Penthouse. It is only available as a 30 day minimum furnished rental but we encourage longer stays.
I expect quiet respectful behavior with only a few rules such as locking up doors and taking care not to disturb others. Guests only. "Leave No Trace" visits are expected and though some people disappoint on that one, some guests have been absolutely great! If you leave your stuff when you visit, I will let you know but you will have to make the effort to get it back. I am too busy to undertake that chore even if I want to. We are friendly and want you to be so too! We love animals and kids but we are not equipped for them as guests. Our building is No Smoking and No Partying. We like Quiet. We also do not take offense but we are not: "organized", or whatever else the Hater Quinn said in his review. You can be "organized" but don't try to make us "organized"=LOL

We had made it clear on the listing that we only rent furnished month to month as required by New York State law so not sure why this request was made! This should not count as a "reservation!" that had to be cancelled.

Felt very welcome and safe at this place. She went above and beyond with the food left for us which we appreciated greatly. We all could have used a little more privacy though. We were contacted multiple times for her to enter the apt for items she forgot/needed. This was a bit stressful and made me long for a hotel. The sheets for one bed and towels had a sour smell. Besides these minor things this is a safe place to stay and this woman seems kind and caring.

Nancy contacted me before our arrival with many suggestions about local things to do and places to go in Newburgh. Her restaurant recommendations were excellent. She was easy to communicate with and arranged to meet us upon our arrival. She had left a lovely breakfast for us in the refrigerator as well as a lovely welcoming gift of chocolates. She invited us to join her at an art gallery show. The apartment is up about 3 flights of stairs. All necessary amenities are available. My husband, adult daughter, and myself had ample space and privacy. The area seems to be in the midst of gentrification and we felt comfortable there.

Thanks for your suggestions. We are a work in progress and I consider all comments as well as what people like or did not like in order to improve. Only one time, as you can see here, I had a person stay who was not commenting to be helpful but to receive a free stay. He took down his Air Bnb profile-We get to review guests also! No one would ever want him as a house guest! The best guests are those who also host as they understand that we are doing this in order to make ends meet. We are NOT a motel chain corporation! Many people would be better off in a motel so it is important to choose whether that is preferable to your travel needs. IMO it is more polite to try to be a friend of the people who are sharing their life with you as you are their house guest no matter how deluxe or modest!

Unfortunately, I was not pleased with my stay here. I stayed here with my father and wife for three nights for Westpoint graduation, and we did not feel this listing was accurately described. It is not a penthouse as described and we felt it was sorely misrepresented. The apartment was not clean, tidy or well organized. It was very cluttered and out of date in regards to appliances. It was dirty and in terrible shape. There was a couch stuck in the hallway and too much furniture crammed into a small living space. We didn't feel safe here as the host said there was "just petty crime" on the street below and drug deals up the block. There are other things I didn't mention, but unfortunately we were disappointed overall with this space and our experience in it.

Thank you, Nancy, for accommodating our group of four! What a cool historic and artsy place you have! We really enjoyed the view of the Hudson and being close to the water. We also appreciated finding rolls and bagels for breakfast the next morning after coming in so late the night before. You also provided anything needed and stayed up late to meet us after we had delayed flights. We had a wonderful time visiting and attending our son's graduation! Thanks again and many blessings! It is always so rewarding to meet families coming to Westpoint Military Academy. Now that we have 2 doubles and a single it is easier to have a group. City of Newburgh is a unique and under-appreciated location for many people visiting our area but coming here to visit where George Washington, Lafayette, and Thomas Edison created history is a special treat. We have great places in City of Newburgh to really see, experience, and enjoy the Hudson River! I am so glad you came and we would welcome you again at any time. Thanks for being a special part of the Airbnb community!

Our month-long stay was overly pleasant and warm! N&N were very welcoming, hospitable and willing to keep up with our needs. Newburgh quickly became our home, full of eclectic architecture, healthy food and a small artist community to share in conversation. The neighbors within the building were very communal and friendly; eager to share their knowledge of the area and their internet with us. I would love to stay again, should the opportunity arise.

I have worked as an entrepreneur in artisanal product development of specialty foods, fashion, and Telezeen, an internet interface for ITV after retiring from life as a fashion merchant. I live in a small village in a rural farming area just outside NYC in The Hudson River Valley. I spend a lot of my time in the nearby City of Newburgh (which is situated on the Hudson) and also in NYC. This area is very commuter friendly; many people go in and out every day. It is only 60 miles to Times Square via the NY thruway.Or, only about 40 minutes to The Gunks near New Paltz. I also am in the process of co-founding a new non -profit called digitalTerritory. This is to create productive creative workspaces for synergies and connections between new tech and business for job creation in this area. NYC has sprouted these but this project is one of the first out here.

We are 30 minutes drive from Woodbury Commons for great discount shopping for international visitors. There are orchards and vineyards and organic farms to visit in this area. I like to eat well at home right from the organic farms so can suggest routes if you want to do that.

I love travel to new places to experience culture that is new to me but there's always a lot in NYC to do and see as well as consume. We are happy to help you organize your visit in the region.

As a host, I hope to be casual, relaxed, and happy which is the same thing I wish for you as a guest.
