This rowhome has been meticulously and thoughtfully renovated throughout. You won't believe the amenities! We're centrally located in the Shaw neighborhood close to metro, shops, markets and fun. The kitchen is a must-see for chefs who want to relax in style while visiting DC. Our house is great for couples, small groups and travelers of all backgrounds.
The kitchen is a chef's dream, with a beautiful stove and Miele in-wall coffee maker. We have Sonos speakers throughout the house, a washer/dryer for our guests' use and every amenity you could dream of. There is a gas BBQ outside, jets in the shower, parking included! Clean towels and linens will be provided for every stay, just leave them in the hamper when you're finished.
Guests have access to the entire house.

Welcome to our Washington home!
-Our house is classic 110 year-old home and with this comes some quirks of an old house. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Walking, metro, bike share, car share and buses are the easiest ways to get around Washington and our home is centrally located with access to all modes of transportation.
-The house is located about 2 blocks from the Shaw-Howard University Metro Station with the Green and Yellow metro lines
-The Metro Bus lines: there are several bus lines in the areas. Check out (URL HIDDEN) for the most up to date information and directions
-Uber: download the Uber app to your smart phone and get picked up at the front door
-Bike Share: the nearest bike share pick up point is at the metro stop.
-Car Share is a great way to use a car for short trips outside of Washington, shopping or ??? (ZipCar, Enterprise CarShare)
Transportation to/from Airports
-Reagan National Airport: We are located 2 blocks from the Shaw-Howard University Metro Station and the Green and Yellow metro lines. If you’re coming to Washington and landing at Reagan National Airport, you can take a taxi (approx. $30) or ride the Metro. For metro, take the Yellow line train to Shaw-Howard and exit on the 8th Street side. Go to top of escalator and turn right – walk for 2 blocks to 1615 8th Street.
-We can arrange two parking options for you depending on when you are visiting:
-If you are visiting when we are out of town with our own vehicle, you can park behind the house in our parking spot. To access the spot, look for the garage door opener in the house on the kitchen counter. Drive through the alley behind the house to enter. The alley is accessed via both sides.
-If our car in the spot, we have a guest parking pass that you can use. Please find the pass on the counter in the kitchen and return it before you leave
-You may park on the street but make sure you look at signs even if you have the parking pass
-The gas BBQ is behind the house accessible through the door in the kitchen. Please make sure it remains at least a foot away from the house when in use.
-The kitchen contains a blender, submersion blender, food processor, sodastream machine, toaster, and in-wall coffee maker. There are some teas, coffee, sugar, flour, vinegars, etc., located in and around the door to the right of the stove.
Miele In-wall Coffee Pot
-Extra coffee beans are located in the lower cupboard to the right of the machine
-Press the On button and put the plastic container under the middle spout
-The machine will take approximately 3 minutes to heat up and will rinse into the plastic container before it is ready
-Once prompted, put a coffee cup under the spout and press okay.
-The machine knows when to stop
-Follow the same steps to use the hot water button for making tea, etc
-In the bottom drawer to the right of sink you can find further instructions should you need them
-Cabinets near the sink house the everyday dishes, glassware, and some storage containers.
-Large cooking pots can be found to the left of the stove
-The buffet in the dining room has cloth napkins and place mats.
-Drawers in the kitchen have all silverware, utensils, dish rags and hand towels.
-Feel free to look around in the kitchen for items you may need
-Please put a mat or hot pad under hot dishes on the dining room table
Washer-Dryer and Linens
-Linens and towels are provided in the bedrooms and towels are located in the bathrooms or in the cabinets outside of the guest room bathroom. If you need to, you may wash extras as you use them.
-Laundry detergent and dryer sheets are located in the bottom drawer under the dryer
-The washer-dryer is located in the Master Bath closet along with the hamper. Please drop all towels and linens there when you leave.
-The ironing board and iron are located in the Master Bath closet. The iron folds out and down from the wall and does not detach
If you use the washer and dryer, please keep the washer door open when finished
The internet connection is via Comcast Service. The modem and wifi are located in the family room. The network is Netgear10 and the password is modernflamingo345. Once in a while after a storm, you will have to reset the modem. To do this, unplug the power supply and wait for 15 seconds and plug it back in.
Stereo, TV and DVD
-We use a Sonos system for our music and there are speakers in the Master Bedroom, TV room, Living Room and Office area.
-There is no landline phone in the house
-If you have any emergency, call 911 and tell them you are located at ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬1615 8th St. NW, Washington, DC 20001
Heating and A/C
-The first floor and basement are on one system. The upstairs is on another.
-The first floor is controlled by the thermostat in the dining room. To set, just hold the up “^” or down button down until it says set.
-The upstairs heating and A/C system is controlled by the thermostat in the hallway near the master bedroom. You simply increase or decrease the temperature you desire by pushing the button.
-Extra blankets are available in each room. The vents in each room can be opened or closed to permit more or less heat or A/C.
-If you would like to open the windows, please close them before leaving the house.
-The inside kitchen trash receptacles are in the pull outdoor to the right of the sink. Please put trash in the front bin and recycling (co-mingled) in the back bin
-If you need to take the garbage out, the large receptacles are located in the back yard
-Garbage is picked up on Tuesday and Friday and if need be, you can place the bins outside of the garage door in the alley for pick up.
Our Favorites (food, shopping, fun, touristy things)
Our house is located in a great neighborhood called Shaw and is within walking distance of Logan Circle, U Street, Bloomingdale, the Washington Convention Center and so much more.
The best way to find out about all of the area restaurants is to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) the neighborhoods but here are a few close and yummy ones
Coffee: Compass coffee on 7th Street and owned by some cool Vets
Shaw Tavern - 520 Florida NW
Bistro Bohem – basically next to Shaw Tavern
Tailly – 1316 9th Street NW
Corduroy and Baby Wale – 1122 9th Street and 1124 9th Street NW
Beer Garden – Dacha at 1600 7th Street
There are dozens and dozens more to choose from with a 20 minute walk
Grocery Store –
-If you leave the house and walk left three blocks you will find the full service grocery store Giant
-Whole Foods Market is located in Logan Circle at 14th and P Streets NW, about a 15 minute walk
Hardware store –
-Logan Hardware is located 1734 14th Street NW and has all sorts of fun things to look at
-Near Logan Hardware you will find boutiques like Redeem (clothing) and Home Rule (housewares)
