The studio is created as a space for visiting family and friends, including you! We are independent and reasonably quiet. A beloved 93 year old neighbor lives next door. This isn't a party center past midnight; night life is some blocks away, if you want more action! Trundle bed opens to 2 twins or Queen air mattress upon request.
Neighborhood history note:
Idora Park was an amusement park destination on the Key Line Electric train in the late 1800's to the 1920s. The park greenery is still alive in square blocks of adjoining backyards; the light opera and vaudeville theatre, skating rink, ferris wheel, zoo you will need to imagine. We are happy to share photos and information on Oakland history with you!
Because the studio is near the garden, we ask guests to remove their shoes once inside. No smoking inside, or pets. Use walkway through patio to Studio. Secure windows and doors before leaving.
A native Nebraskan, I have spent most of my adult life in Northern California, with frequent journeys to wilderness areas and other parts of the world. I travel generally off the beaten track, usually with an adventure in mind - biking, rafting, hiking, camping, guiding tours in Latin America, curating art exhibits, studying art or languages, developing programs.
A current focus of mine is creating a language & cultural exchange program for learner travelers with residents in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. An anthropologist and museum director from Mexico and I invite you to join us in San Luis, soon after Oakland!
My daughter and I have hosted many friends, foreign exchange students, and friends of friends over the years in Oakland. I speak Spanish and some Portuguese (and English!). My daughter currently attends college on the East Coast, so there is room in the inn at home now. Like my great neighbors, I have owned a sweet house in Idora Park for a long time. Home and garden projects keep me busy!
We love the convenient walking distance to Temescal and Rockridge restaurants, farmers’ markets, monthly First Fridays - music and arts events, shops, bookstores, galleries, and transportation to San Francisco. SF is a 20 minute train ride away. A great place to stay in the Bay Area and be our guest!
Things most important to me are friends, family, nature time, swimming, and learning. Activities that occupy my time are my professional work coordinating a program for English Language Learners program in the Bay Area, dancing, bicycling, hosting a weekly Yoga class (you are welcome to join), making muffins at Green Gulch Zen farm and weekly dinners with friends from 1 to 93.
