Our spacious detached house, swathed in Virginia Creeper, sits on the western flank of Kingsdown, above the Bybrook Valley.
Sleep soundly -- but listen out for owls! Guests have sole use of the downstairs toilet and bathroom (full bath and shower).
The downstairs bedroom has a spacious double bed, but even before entering the bedroom a guest will recognize that this is a "bookish" household. They're everywhere, tempting the passerby to stop and rifle through texts about polyphony, film noir, Babe Ruth and Anthony Powell.
Our two cats -- Micilin and Molly -- occupy bookcases, sofas and nooks at will, but are not allowed to enter the guest bedroom.
Guests can enjoy a relaxed Continental breakfast while savouring the view west across the broad Bybrook Valley.
The large double room has WiFi access and adjoins its own toilet and bathroom (with full bath and shower). Guests can take their breakfast in the light and spacious kitchen or -- in good weather -- on the patio, with its commanding views over our garden and westward toward Bath.

"I'll tell you right out -- I'm a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."
Sidney Greenstreet's famous line in The Maltese Falcon also suits my attitude, at breakfast and early evening. Note that I am a writer, and need seclusion during the day to work -- but guests would want to be out exploring anyway!
We can offer all sorts of advice about restaurants and sights in and around Bath; moreover, we have maps and booklets about local walks, which guests are free to borrow.
Другие важные подробности
Scandinavian minimalist interior decorators be warned: this is a house full of books, artworks...and memories. The paths of many people's lives, including yours, have crossed here. It's clean to the highest standard, but full of things to divert, distract and fascinate visitors.
We ask that guests remove outdoor shoes inside the house and not put luggage on the bed.
With two cats already in residence, we can't allow other pets.
There is no smoking in the house.
I am a freelance writer of children's educational books with a wide range of interests. My wife, Frederika, runs a play-reading circle and organizes concerts of a high standard in the local church, in aid of the local charity she founded to maintain that ancient building.
We both enjoy taking long walks in the surrounding countryside, which is perfect for walking -- with wonderful views over to the Bristol Channel and over the hills of Bath.
We appreciate art, film and music. I compile the brochure and write the film notes for each screening of the Bath Film Society and Frederika sings in the Festival Choir at St John's, the main Catholic church in Bath. Our 18-year-old daughter Anna plays oboe and piano; her twin, Thomas, plays violin -- ranging from Bach to traditional Irish airs.
I have a particular interest in languages and can speak French and Russian reasonably well, Italian to a much lesser degree, and can swear and gossip somewhat in Irish.
