Walter and his wife were exceedingly gracious hosts. I loved their hospitality and responsiveness. Their warmth made me feel right at home in a place hundreds of miles away from home. I was also very comfortable in the room they provided. The only unexpected part of my stay was having to share a bathroom with another of Walter’s renters. But for the unit price, even this was acceptable.
Walter provided me with ample information about getting around Lima but prior to and during my stay. He was extremely fast with his email replies -
I’d receive them usually within a few hours of my emailing him. Moreover, Walter answered his phone the very first time I attempted to call him from the Lima airport. And he met me at the front desk of his building before I even had a chance to ask the doorman where I should go.
Their apartment is immaculate, with new faux wood flooring and IKEA-like furniture in the bedroom. The bedroom also features a spacious closet and set of drawers. There is one tall, narrow window that lets in a good amount of fresh air, but keeps out a surprising amount of street noise from the busy avenue below.
As I mention above, my one caution to prospective guests is that the unit bathroom is shared with one other (long-term) renter of Walter’s. During my stay, this was a Korean woman. You will need to be comfortable with her keeping her shower caddy and hygiene items (and underwear, as was the case when I was there) in the bathroom, and finding her hair on the floor.
My other caution is that the walls are quite thin, so you will hear the goings on of your neighbors. My Korean roommate was quite quiet. But Walter’s other long-term renter was a couple that I did hear talking and shuffling about at different times. They were not disruptive by any means. But you will hear them.
That aside, I can’t say enough good things about Walter and his wife. I forgot to mention… They allowed me a late check-out at 2:30PM, and even permitted me to keep my suitcase in their apartment until I left for the airport at 9PM that evening.
I would certainly recommend this unit for travelers on a budget, so long as you don’t mind sharing a bathroom and hearing your neighbors shuffling about. Walter and his wife were wonderful.
