Welcome to Helsinki.
My apartment is in a residential house with business premises downstairs and it is built in 1926. In the spacious stairwell you take elevator to the 5th floor. Here on top floor we have your holiday home.
The unit consists of hallway, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room and 2 balconies.
is well equipped with stove, dishwasher, refrigerator with ice box, coffee maker, toaster, microwave owen, pots and pans and tableware. Kitchen balcony is facing east and here you can have your morning coffe.
has 120 cm wide futon. If this is wide enough for one or two, it is your choice :) In addition I have a foldaway bed with slatted bed base. Both beds are provided with bed linen. Here is also bureau for your laptop (the wireless printer is in the kitchen). The bedroom balcony is facing west, so here you can serve your afternoon tea.
is designed in the twenties and there is not room enough for a spa, but all the essentials are here: shower as well as a washing machine, hair dryer and fresh towels
here we have voluminous Howard sofa, a couple of armchairs with coffee table and TV. You have a cable TV network with internet digi box in your disposal, so you should find something interesting to watch. And of course fast wireless internet. Free Wifi! is unlimited so you can use it as much as you want.
So let's get started with your holiday
SHOP TILL YOU DROP
Just across the street is a 7-Eleven (Siwa) with basic groceries. If you want a better assortment, you go to S-Market at Hietaniemi square (5 min walk). There is also the closest pharmacy and liquor store. On the way back you can take a look what they have on the flea market - I usually see only old baby clothes as others find fabulous stuff. Malls Kamppi (5 min walk) and Forum (10 min walk) are both in vicinity. Kamppi houses besides the shops the closest metro station and bus terminal for both local and interurban transport. If you prefer to shop in department stores you can go to Stockmann`s (15 min walk). In addition this area is filled with shops and boutiques.
EAT TILL YOU DROP
On the very same building is a finnish smorgasbord restaurant "Konstan Möljä". There you can explore the finnish way of cooking. Connoisseurs of good food direct their journey to Hietalahti Market Hall - Gourmets heaven on earth. This old bazaar style building is filled with delicatessen where you buy premium groceries and restaurants where you can eat on premises. Whether you like domestic or exotic cuisines, Michelin stars or less formal eating in this area you have multiple choise of restaurants.
TRAVEL TILL YOU DROP
Tram and bus stops are in the immediate vicinity. Tram lines 6 and 9 going from west harbour to railway station and further. Buses 65A and 66A from Lauttasaari via railway station to the north. Most of the Espoo buses stops here as well. From Kamppi (5 min walk) you can take metro to the east and visit "Itäkeskus - the largest mall in Scandinavia" or jump in a interurban bus and visit any city of your choice. From railway station (15 min walk) you can travel to Lapland or Russia. From West Harbour (15 min walk) you can take a ferry boat to Tallinn or St Petersburg and enjoy a nice summer day on deck
RELAX TILL YOU DROP
On a sunny day it is nice to have a picnic. Sinebrychoff park is only 5 min walk away. Besides the beautiful park there is an old brewery and a manor house. In the manor house is the biggest private art gallery in Finland. You can also go to the market square (20 min walk) and there fill your picnic basket with treats and take a boat to Suomenlinna fortress island. If a crowded island does not sound good, make a lunch cruise to the archipelago instead, or take romantic M/S Runeberg to the touristic city of Porvoo.
If you feel like walking, you can stroll along the seaside and admire the archipelago. When you go south you will find several marinas, cafes and parks. From the south you will find the brand new sauna world "Löyly" aswell. Heading north along the waterfront you come to Hietaniemi cemetery - a beautiful park, Hietsu beach for swimming and further north is Seurasaari outdoor museum and recreation area. Actually you can walk as long as you want and the waterfront never ends.
