Our home is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just a few miles from the Skyline Drive, Parkway, and Appalachian Trail in the lovely Greenwood/Afton national historic district.
We built our home in 2011 with the intention of creating a place that would be enjoyable to raise our four children and for entertaining our many friends and large extended family.
The house is traditional stucco and most of the interior doors and wood accents are reclaimed oak timber from an old barn on the property. The primary floors are rift and quarter sawn white oak, finished dark, the bathrooms and mudroom are natural stone, and the bedrooms are carpeted. We like to spend time outdoors, but when the weather isn’t cooperating we enjoy reading, playing board games, or if we’re really feeling lazy, we’ll watch a movie in the home theatre (though it’s usually reserved for Fun Friday).
We love children, and our home welcomes them often.
Aspects that we enjoy:
Family room: is spacious with views out of every window. The high-efficiency wood fireplace, when properly kindled, creates a beautiful display of billowing flame, while warming much of the first floor.
Kitchen: we love to cook, so the kitchen is well kitted, with granite countertops, custom cabinets, a central island, two sinks, a GE Induction Range, dual GE Advantium ovens, oversized fridge, separate freezer in the butler's pantry, and a kitchen table that seats 8. The island is a great place for making Jamie Oliver pizza! There are plenty of other small appliances available too and of course a coffee maker and bean grinder.
Dining: the formal dining room has a large dining table that seats 10-12 and plenty of stemware for enjoying the local wine.
Living Room: the formal living room has a gas log fireplace and is a bit cozier than the family room. We find it perfect for an afternoon nap or enjoying a good book (and it’s great for serious board games like Axis & Allies, that take more than a day to play, and would probably be destroyed if left in the family room).
Master suite: When you need a little peace, escape to the spacious master bedroom suite. Sit at the writing desk and enjoy the pastoral views leading up to the Blue Ridge Mountains that form the backdrop. The master bath includes a claw-foot tub and dual showers with a private WC.
Basement/rec. room: We have four children and the finished basement provides a great place for the kids to do a little roughhousing if the weather outside isn’t inviting.
Movie theatre: for kids (of all ages), the movie theatre has a 14’ diagonal screen and Dolby 7.1 surround sound. Our video library is mostly children’s movies, so you may want to bring your own Blu-Ray disks or rent online or from the video shop in Crozet.
Patios: There is a back patio for grilling and two balconies for morning relaxation. We have recently been doing landscaping, so some of the lawn has been seeded.
You will have access to the entire home.
Общение с гостями
When we aren’t at home in Virginia we are probably in England, so we won’t personally be at home to greet you. We will provide telephone numbers should you need assistance.
This is our family home. We don't allow raucous parties… hmm, we're a bit raucous I guess, ok, what I mean is, if you drink too much, and break things (guitars, chandeliers, etc), then this home is not a good fit for you. Otherwise, make yourself at home!
We strictly forbid any form of commercial photography or videography without prior written consent.
