First off, I'd like to again apologize for the inconvenience that Jayson's wife had to go through on her birthday and to any other guests. We've been doing this a long time so please review our response here, but also look at our over 100 5 star reviews as well. I'd like to address each issue that the husband, Jayson, has written about us. To be clear, our heating system (which was just maintenanced for the winter season) unfortunately had gone out during their stay. The first night (Friday) the heat was working just fine and we didn't get a call until the next morning (Saturday) at which point we not only spoke to the wife immediately who was staying there, but also the husband (who was not staying there but who set up this getaway for his wife's birthday); he called/texted frantically and we were toggling back and forth from husband/wife with different conversations. Both were very nice, understanding, and accepting at that point and when we spoke they both said "no problem, these things happen, thank you for taking care of this." It was further discussed that everything else about there stay was great at that point. Shortly after getting off the phone with both, we very quickly sent our HVAC company an emergency call to come out (in the midst of nearly a foot of snow and a “state of emergency” for North Carolina) to fix the issue. The guest were gone all day at that point and the problem was fixed quickly by the HVAC company. Unfortunately, the switch went out again and the house was cold when the guests arrived after midnight on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, we were asleep at that time but as soon as we heard the news early that morning, we again quickly called the HVAC company and they were able to communicate directly with the guests and have them simply turn the switch back on (literally took five minutes). The heat immediately began to work again. Please keep in mind that the thermostat had never dropped below 63 degrees because we have two space heaters for these type of issues which were set up in the house for use. On more than one occasion we tried to accommodate them further by not only offering to buy breakfast or lunch for them, but to also deduct $100 off of their next stay. We feel we are very reasonable people and hosts and it is very important for us to treat people fairly. It is disheartening to have someone who you speak to on the phone who is "cheery" to us “in person”, but then afterwards they write such an abrasive review. Again, both seemed to be very nice and understanding of this unfortunate "winter" issue, but in hindsight, the husband was very impatient and a little irrational. Furthermore, for him to tell us that we AND our house is "strange" is very rude and belittling, especially after the great effort we took to truly communicate and help them in many ways asap. I can understand his frustration, but to lash out and write such a degrading review is upsetting. Regarding our camera's... for safety purposes for our guests, we have camera's set up in the front and back entrances to show when guests arrive and leave. There are NO camera's IN our house "watching" guests as he suggests. The camera's notify us if there is any movement OUTSIDE of our house only and guests love this added security. We appreciate them noticing that the location and space is nice, but we feel this is a clearly an attempt to write an unwarranted harsh review made out of pure frustration that his wife's birthday stay wasn't 100% perfect. The husband was looking for 100% refund but when we spoke to the wife, we came to an agreement to issue them a 50% refund, offered to buy them lunch/breakfast, and give them $100 off of their next stay. Furthermore, we offered to let them stay a couple extra days if they wanted. We apologize again of these unfortunate circumstances, but we felt we truly did our best to help accommodate them in a very timely and professional manner. We wish them the best and happy holidays.
