Our house is situated in the country side on a two acre site surrounded by woods and fields. The house was built in 2002 and includes a sun deck for meals when the weather is warm. The double room we are offering has been tastefully and luxuriously decorated with Laura Ashley bed linen and includes an en suite with shower and bubble bath. The bedroom overlooks our gardens which have been lovingly developed and feature a full range of native plants, a herb garden, a vegetable garden an orchard and a short walking route. The house has free Wi-Fi coverage and ample car parking out front. Our room would be ideal for one visitor or couples.
Guests have full and unrestricted access to the double bedroom and en suite, the breakfast room, a small sitting room, and the sun deck all of which are situated on the ground floor for ease of access. Guests also have full access to the gardens and to a study where computer and printer access is available if required.
We provide delicious breakfast (including organic eggs from our own hens), home baking and organic fruit and vegetables (in season) from our vegetable garden. We will advise and guide you with respect to all local attractions and places to visit in Straffan, Kildare and Dublin itself. We love meeting people and look forward to welcoming you to our home. We are a family of 4 and we will be present during our guest's stay to cook and provide any other assistance required.
Our neighbourhood is in the country side, yet only 2 km from the charming and award winning picturesque village of Straffan. We are ideally located for anyone attending weddings in the K Club, Barberstown Castle, and The Village at Lyons Hotel. The area includes many beautiful country walks including through the grounds of the world famous K-Club ((website hidden)), but also along the banks of the Royal Canal. Straffan also boasts The Straffan Steam Museum and Walled Gardens and The Straffan Butterfly Farm. Straffan is probably most famous for the K-Club and is world class golf courses (The Palmer Course and The Smurfit Course). Carton House is another premium golfing resort in the area located outside Maynooth Co Kildare, some 10 kms from Straffan. Kildare is known as "The Thoroughbred County" due to the concentration of stud farms, race meetings and other equestrian pursuits in the county. Straffan lies at the heart of "Horse Country". The heart of Straffan village itself is the Straffan Inn where you will never be a stranger and where you will enjoy the best pint in Ireland (probably!).
Straffan village - 2kms from our house - is well served with public bus transport which takes guests to O'Connell Bridge/Street in Dublin City Centre. Alternatively there are train stations to the City from Maynooth, Leixlip and Celbridge (all neighbouring towns). There is ample free and secure off road car parking space at our house. To get to the to our home from Dublin Airport take the M50 Southbound as far as Exit 7 where you exit onto the N4 in the direction of Sligo, Westport and Galway. Continue out this road until you ready Exit (check) for Maynooth. Once exited follow the R406 for Straffan. Drive through Straffan village, pass the K-Club on your right, over the big Liffey Bridge, after 300 metres take the first turn on your left, after another 300 meters take the first turn on your right and we will be waiting to welcome you to the second house on the left!
Straffan is magical and is a real gateway to Dublin, Kildare and indeed all of Ireland. It combines peaceful country living with easy access to the city of Dublin and easy access to the roads to the West, South and Northern Ireland. It is a haven for Golfers and Equestrian enthusiasts alike and its ease of access to Dublin Airport makes it a dream location for your holiday or short break
We ask any guests who smoke to please do so outdoors and to dispose of cigarette butts in the bins provided. Should you have any special dietary requirements just let us know.
I am 55 years old, and my wife Rita and I are passionate about good food, country living, gardening, red wine, rugby, travelling to France and Italy. We love meeting people and hearing their stories and telling them ours. We love to cook - especially using ingredients grown or produced in our own gardens. We have a good sense of humour and are relaxed and easy going! We like to give visitors the best possible impression of Ireland, Kildare and Straffan and we go out of our way to give people a memorable visit to our home (home made pancakes from our own organic eggs is the house speciality!).Rita also likes to bake scones, brown bread and cakes.
