Red Rocks Rwanda is a hostel style bed & breakfast located just outside of Musanze headquarters of the famous Gorilla Trekking and Volcano climbing. We run a six bedroom guest house, camp site, and cultural center. This listing is for one private room.

Red Rocks Rwanda is much more than just a hostel - we operate a cultural center for the community that includes "Acts of Hope" a woman's basket making cooperative, art camp and onsite farm. We offer a variety of optional activities for our guests that give you opportunities to learn more about Rwandan culture, village life, and at the same time promote our community

I recommend Red Rocks for anyone looking for a Getaway alone or with a special someone. I went on a solo retreat which was great as I got to take visit in the nearby communities as well as got a bit writing done. Food is great they got local beer at an affordable price and my extra special part the bonfire (spent hours sitting and watching the flames).

Staying at Red Rocks was an absolutely fantastic experience. Greg and Harriet were incredible hosts and did all they could to make sure I had a good stay. They arranged transport, helped me to organise my trips to Virunga National Park and were always available on the phone to help me translate when my Kinyarwanda failed me. I loved the fact that the hostel runs various community development projects. We had a lot of fun learning basket weaving skills with some of the women supported by Red Rocks' programmes, and if I come back I would really like to volunteer. A great place with even better people!

Red Rocks is the perfect BackPackers Hostel. That said I think I'm a little old/soft for this level of accommodation. Pros: Staf is amazing, food is home cooked and accommodates vegetarians, Though we didn't use any of their prearranged projects they have many that reach out in the community giving their guests a taste of Rwandan culture. Great price. Cons: Far from the town and gorillas and down a long unpaved/muddy road (that is in the process of being repaved), the beds were uncomfortable, the room that we were in had a leak in the ceiling that during the downpour caused rain to either be on our heads or feet certainly dampened our experience. Mosquito netting in the other room didn't fit the bed.

Harriet is a wonderful, friendly host who as a Rwandan who studied in the US has a really interesting perspective on life. At only 25, she's put together a space that is comfortable for visitors and helps provide the local community with an income. A very inspiring young lady.

Red Rocks Rwanda is awesome and I'm so happy to be their inaugural reviewer on AIRbnb. As a AIRBNB host myself I know how important these reviews are. Red Rocks is located just outside of downtown Musanze / Ruhengeri (Rwanda confuses people by have two names for many places). A welcoming basic guest house and campsite - what make Red Rocks so special is a combination of the beautiful location, amazing staff and management team, the many optional activities offered from basket making, to banana beer brewing, farming, cooking, and perhaps the most special - the support it lends to the local community. There is a on site women's basket making cooperatives and arts center with local artist working and selling their products. Greg Bakunzi is also owner of Amahoro Tours and can arrange many other tours, hikes and other activities around Rwanda. When staying, a simple breakfast is served - usually fruit and bread with coffee/tea and some of the most amazing local honey you've ever tasted. Eggs or more can be served upon request and you can also self cater other meals or ask to have lunch or dinner provided (extra charge). Most nights there is a wonderful campfire - and there is a stocked fridge with cold beer and soda for sale too. Bathroom is shared and very basic but always clean. There are a few single and double beds room with simple but clean linens and common room inside and lots out outdoor seating. Another bonus is you can do your own laundry or ask the staff for help - which is is especially great after a long days hike. There is free wifi provides as well. I went once last summer and fell in love with the location and staff. I've now have returned several time and stayed for multiple days. Really I think you can't beat the value for the price and experience. I hope lots of folks find Red Rocks on AIRbnb and stay!
