A breath of fresh air where wanderlust meets whimsy. Villa Kakelbont is a consummation of artists and canvas intertwined with nature in the most unsuspecting way. A marriage of nurturing hearts and creative minds, Na and Hans have managed to cultivate a harmonious realm amidst nature's drive to be wild and free. Among flowers and antiquities you'll find little gems of stories untold. And then...goats! And chickens and plants whose harvest Na will graciously share accompanied by a small love note that will surely make you smile. You'll have to decide for yourself if Na's tomatoes or Han's are best, and please do ask her how she once came to have 50 chickens ;D. Oh! And grapes!! The juiciest balance of sweet, tart and ohmygod you could possibly experience, right off the wine.
Na responded promptly to my message and questions upon booking. The Villa is an easy 15-minute bus ride from the airport, and 30 minutes to the city center via train. I had no trouble finding my way to town for a canal tour, sight-seeing, tasty food, dancing and impromptu conversations with passersby. Na has lots of helpful tips and plenty of brochures to point you in the right direction in making the best of your time. She is sweet and spunky with quite a sense of humor, resourceful, but does not hover.
The bedroom at Villa Kakelbont1 is clean, sprite, comfortable and cozy. It started raining shortly after I got in, but I simply closed the window, and had no problem with wetness or humidity. A private shower area is just across the hall through the laundry room where you can do a small load of laundry if you need. Na even provided a sack of detergent (better to have guests who smell good, I suppose!) I packed "light and right" so I didn't need it, but appreciated the option. Had I more time, I would have taken Na up on the offer to use one of the house bikes for a ride through the neighborhood. Next time!
Lovely space and lovely folks. If you are looking for a place where you can walk out the front door of the house and into the front door of a bar, this is not your place. If you can appreciate little bits of love and charm and character off the beaten path, then stop scrolling, and book this space before it's gone!
