Hi, I'm Jan and I run The Oxford, a 3 bedroom guest house with my husband John. We are just 3.5 miles from Birmingham City centre and again about 3 miles from Solihull town centre. I'm a Yorkshire girl but have lived here in Birmingham for over forty years. We both love meeting new people and entertaining, and look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our home and help you to discover all the wonderful and interesting things that you can do and see here in Birmingham.
Since we started this B&B venture in summer 2014 we have been staggered and delighted by how well we have been reviewed. We just received an award from another site a rating of 9.5 for 2015 & now 2016
In terms of our hosting style...we like to think that we are guided by you and your needs during a stay if you like to be involved with a bit of banter when you come in that's all well and good, equally if you prefer to have privacy and your own space we will respect that too. So if you are feeling at home during your stay, we have got it right!
In April we were invited to Barcelona to meet up with a student and her parents who stayed here for 12 weeks during Erasmus term. Laura and her friend Julia Ramirez (see review) could not find short term clean/decent/affordable accommodation elsewhere (even though they spent 4 days in Birmingham searching). The problem was timing, all the best student accommodation had gone by the time they came in late Sept. We offered them a shared room and it worked out very well. Here in Acocks Green we have the fast rail link into the city just 2 minutes walk from The Oxford and it only take 6-9 minutes to get into the heart of Birmingham with just a ten minute walk to Aston University Campus, where they were studying.
If the calendar will not let you book the dates you require then do make a request by sending us a message - it may be that we can make some acceptable room adjustments/upgrades for other guests and accommodate you as well. We try our best.
We state one month maximum stay but if all is going well then we might well extend the availability. One guest, Waleed, stayed for five months last year!
A little about us:
John and I are in our youthful sixties, with grandchildren we adore, which has enriched our lives.
My work as a Clinical Health Restorer makes me tick. Specializing in relieving physical & emotional pain whilst teaching stress relief techniques to promote relaxation. Giving hope to those who have been struggling with chronic worry, anxiety pain or depression, which in turn helps them to find peace of mind with deep sleep patterns restored. My job satisfaction is immeasurable.
John is extremely well read and can usually converse on most subjects: sports music, films, history, art and English being his favorites. He has been a keen artist since childhood and continues today, his colourful quirky work is dotted around the house with a particular emphasis on bird life, which is part and parcel of his life.
We spend as many hours as we can in our own sunny south west facing garden, which has a backdrop of mature trees. We are happy to share this glorious space with you. Take a cup of tea or coffee out there whilst you wait for your breakfast to be cooked and listen to the birds singing. The Woodpeckers and Nuthatch nest locally. We are lucky to have a pair of Bullfinches as regular visitors to our garden which often plays host to a charm of Goldfinches. The garden also attracts a wide range of wild life so there is never a dull moment what with me and the squirrels digging for England with our resident Robins always close to the action and John enjoying the views.
Anyway, that really is quite enough about us. We are looking forward to meeting you, but until then, we wish you a lovely day!
Any questions? do simply ask - we are happy to help with anything we can to make your stay a comfortable and enjoyable one. We can book or recommend local restaurants and John has a wealth of local knowledge.
