The house was built in 1946 and was named the Queen Elizabeth Guest House, to capitalize on the growing tourist trade with rooms available for rent for $1 a night. When the house was built, the streets of downtown Manteo were sand. Four br, 2 bath, sleeps 10. Built in 1946, this quaint, sunny, spacious, and historic house has a natural charm. Hardwood floors, comfy breakfast nook, wood stove, outdoor shower, fenced-in yard are some of the much-loved features.
This quaint, spacious, and historic house has a natural charm. It offers an alternative to the more contemporary houses that are available in the nearby beach locations. The house is equipped with beautiful hard-wood floors, and wonderful light, comfortable sofas, family heirloom furniture, 100% cotton sheets, towels, down comforters, plenty of dining room chairs, well-stocked pantry, kitchen dining nook, and shady side. Two downstairs bedrooms have queen size beds. Small upstairs bedroom now has a queen-sized bed. The bunk room has a bunk bed (queen on bottom, single on top), and a full-size bed. The kitchenette upstairs has an additional single sleeper/sofa (best to bring your own linens or sleeping bag if you plan to use it.) The yard is completely enclosed by a white picket fence, with plenty of space for children and dogs to run. Our home and the town of Manteo is very dog-friendly! A newly built, completely enclosed outdoor shower is great for washing off after the beach. There is a large magnolia tree with a swing in the front yard and lovely landscaping around the house. We can easily accommodate 2 families with the main kitchen downstairs and a simple galley kitchen upstairs with a separate entrance.
For an additional charge of $100, you can have access to our 4 bikes and 2 kayaks.

Robert Long and Anne Mandeville-Long are your hosts. Our primary residence is in Chapel Hill, NC. Robert grew up spending his childhood summers in Manteo in a family house in the Mother Vineyard neighborhood to the north of downtown. His parents, his brother William, his sister Laura, and Robert have all been involved with the Lost Colony Outdoor Drama. Anne and Robert have seven children in their blended family. You will see various pictures of the family around the house. The grass lawn through the Garden Gate near the outdoor shower is Robert’s brother’s backyard.
